This invention relates to packaged photographic film that is capable of being alternately processed, according to individual consumer choice, by either (1) a traditional wet-chemistry process with a phenylenediamine-containing developer solution followed by desilvering in one or more subsequent solutions to obtain a color negative film, or (2) a thermal process involving the use of a relatively minor amount of an aqueous solution containing a liberating agent such as alkaline base to activate (unblock) a blocked phenylenediamine developing agent located within the photographic element, followed by electronic scanning of the developed film without desilvering. This invention enables a single film stock to be developed in both a conventional deep tank process and in an apparently dry process.

The invention provides a color photographic element comprising: a) a first light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer containing a compound of Formula I: wherein Q represents the atoms necessary to form a triazole ring and the associated bonds, provided that the ring members may be substituted and that two of such members may join to form a fused ring; provided further that the ClogP for the compound of Formula I is from 4.75 to 9.0; and b) a second light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, having a spectral sensitivity different from that of the first light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, containing a compound of Formula II: COUP-(TIME)j-INH II wherein: 1) COUP is a coupler parent group capable of forming a dye upon reaction with an oxidized developer; 2) TIME is a timing group and j is 0 or 1; and 3) INH is a mild silver development inhibitor fragment. The invention provides improved color reproduction.

There is disclosed a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material that contains at least one color-developing agent of formula (I) and at least one dye-forming coupler of formula (II) contained in one or more photographic constitutional layers provided on a base: ##STR1## in formula (I), Z is a carbamoyl group or the like, and Q represents a group of atoms required to form an unsaturated ring together with the C, and in formula (II), M represents a coupler component capable of causing coupling reaction at the site where G is bonded with the oxidized color-developing agent, G is a hydrogen atom or a coupling split-off group, Y.sup.1 and Y.sup.2 each represent a group having a dissociation group, whose pKa is 1 or more but 12 or less, and n and m are each an integer of 0 to 3, provided that n+m.gtoreq.1. There is also disclosed an image-forming method using the light-sensitive material. According to the use of the novel color-developing agent and the coupler having a dissociation group, an image excellent in maximum color density can be provided.
