摘要: There is provided a device for printing an impression of both postal codes and postage stamps on envelopes which comprises a frame having a slot to receive an envelope so that the envelope is in position to be appropriately printed with an impression of a postal code and postage stamp. Sensors are provided within the slot to indicate when the envelope is appropriately positioned for printing an impression of the postal code and postage stamp. A printer is provided within the frame to print an impression of a predefined postal code in machine readable form and a variable postage amount subtracted from an electronic fund of stored postage on an envelope appropriately positioned within the slot. A keyboard on the frame enables the selecting of both a postal code and a postage amount. A CPU is associated with the keyboard and programmed to store the electronic postage fund and enable it to be appropriately added to with additional postage or subtracted from when an impression of the postage is printed on an envelope. The CPU also controls the operation of the printer so that an impression of a selected postage and postal code are printed on the envelope. The invention also envisages the adaptation of the device to receive bank credit cards to be read and financial transactions to be carried out by way of a telephone line, through communication with the device's CPU and a remote CPU.

摘要: In a machine including structure for sensing a sheet fed to the machine, an improvement comprising: a rotary timing cam, an actuating member movable into and out of locking engagement with the cam; apparatus for controlling the actuating member, the controlling apparatus including resilient structure for urging the actuating member to move into and out of locking engagement with the cam; and the sensing structure including structure for normally latching the controlling apparatus for preventing the resilient structure from moving the actuating member out of locking engagement with the cam, and the latching structure unlatching the controlling apparatus for permitting the resilient structure to move the actuating member out of locking engagement with the cam when the sensing structure senses a sheet fed to the machine.

摘要: In a mailing machine including a postage meter, wherein the postge meter includes rotary structure for printing indicia on a sheet fed to the machine, wherein the machine includes apparatus for driving the printing structure, wherein the machine includes apparatus for feeding a sheet fed thereto downstream in a path of travel through the machine, wherein the sheet feeding apparatus includes an impression roller rotatably mounted beneath the rotary printing structure, and wherein the impression roller has an inner end and an outer end, an improvement comprising: apparatus for aligning a sheet fed to the machine with the path of travel, the aligning apparatus including a registration fence aligned with the path of travel, the aligning apparatus including an elongate stop lever and a shaft on which the lever is pivotally mounted outboard of the outer end of the impression roller, the stop lever extending into the path of travel for pivoting a sheet fed thereto toward the registration fence, the aligning apparatus including a cam rotatable with the printing structure, the aligning apparatus including a cam follower secured to the shaft and disposed in engagement with the cam; and apparatus for starting operation of the driving apparatus in response to the sheet being fed to the machine, the driving apparatus rotating the cam when the driving apparatus is started, the stop lever located relative to the starting apparatus for pivoting a sheet fed thereto before the driving apparatus is started, and the cam dimensioned for rotating the cam shaft for lowering the stop lever out of the path of travel after the driving apparatus is started.

摘要: A mailing machine system, including a mailing machine base and a feeder module secured to the base for conveying envelopes toward a postage meter secured to the base. The feeder module includes a horizontal feed deck and a vertical registration wall adjacent the feed deck and forming a right angle therewith. The system also includes an automatic override circuit for turning the mailing machine system on and off at particular times depending upon the presence or absence of an envelope on the feed deck, and a sensing device having an emitting element and a receiving element. One of the elements is situated in the feed deck and the other of the elements is situated in the registration wall. The sensing device is operatively connected to the on-off circuit, wherein the detection by the sensing device of the presence of an envelope causes the mailing machine system to be turned on and the lack of detection by the sensing device for a predetermined period of times causes the mailing machine system to be turned off.

摘要: A method and system for dynamically adjusting the placement of internal content material to optimally position the content material relative to a wrapped enclosure, and obviate the requirement to out-sort the assembled envelope. Upon assembly, a detection system visually images each envelope in predetermined regions of interest (ROIs). A controller captures the image data for comparison with a set of predefined position data and issues a feedback signal indicative of a directional change which drives an error signal to zero. The correction signal is used by the phase nip roller assembly to adaptively adjust the position of the content material by incrementally adjusting, advancing or retarding, the phase-nip roller assembly, i.e., forward or aft. A predefined number of envelopes is selected to acquire a running average of the image data.

摘要: The invention relates to a franking machine, comprising a print head of an ink-jet printing mechanism for printing flat postal items such as letters or postcards, which can be introduced into said mechanism or which pass through the same. Said franking machine consists of a guiding part which is located around the print head and projects in relation to the nozzle opening plane of said print head, and with which a conveying device is associated, said conveying device transporting the postal items between itself and conveying rollers lying opposite and rotating about axes that are located crosswise to the conveying direction. Said conveying device has two drive-connected driving rollers which together with the guiding part, form a path of travel. The driving rollers are located in front of and behind the print head in relation to the conveying direction. A reversibly liftable counter pressure roller located opposite exerts a pressure on each driving roller, respectively, or on a postal item being transported in-between. A roller feeler (39, 119) which is driven by the passing postal item and which is associated with an encoder device (122) is located between the driving rollers (13, 15; 127, 113) in order to monitor the speed and position of a postal item being transported or for controlling the pressure on a postal item.

摘要: A sensor is paired with an emitter, such as in a postage metering machine, and the sensor is calibrated for ambient light conditions. Ambient light is measured with a sensor while the emitter is unpowered. If the measured ambient light is less than a current trip level (voltage level at the sensor), then a current level of light is measured with the sensor while the emitter is powered. If the measured current level of light exceeds the current trip level, then the signal output from the sensor indicates that an object such as an envelope awaiting postage to be printed thereon is present at the sensor. The current trip level may be determined by measuring light at the sensor when the emitter is on and adding some voltage margin to it, but if the sensor is blocked during this calibration a default threshold is used as the current trip level.
