Abstract:
A system for automatically monitoring the viewing activities of television signals, comprising a measurement device, in which the television signals are adapted to be communicated to the measurement device and the TV set, making the measurement device receive the same signals as the TV set; the measurement device is adapted to extract a fingerprint data from the television signals displayed to the viewers, making the measurement device measures the same video signals as those being seen by the viewers; a data center to which the fingerprint data is transferred; and a fingerprint matcher to which the television signals which the viewers are selected to watch are sent to be monitored through the measurement device. The system according to the present invention does not require any change to the other devices already in place before the measurement device is introduced into the connections.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a broadcasting signal receiving apparatus for controlling use of a broadcasting program using a signature in program information and a method thereof. The broadcasting signal receiving apparatus includes a communicating unit for receiving a broadcasting signal, an extracting unit for extracting a broadcasting program and program information from the received broadcasting signal, and a determining unit configured to generate a temporal signature for confirmation (confirmation signature) which determines whether the program information is changed or not from the original program information and determine validity of the program information by comparing a signature included in the extracted program information with the confirmation signature.
Abstract:
An electronic document, such as an image and a text file for example, may be associated with an action by (1) electronically extracting within a client device features from the electronic document work, (2) transmitting the extracted features from the client device to one or more servers, (3) receiving at the client device from the one or more servers an identification of the electronic document work based on the extracted features, wherein the identification is based on a sub-linear search (or wherein the identification is based on a non-exhaustive search identifying a neighbor), (4) electronically determining an action based on the identification of the electronic document work, and (5) electronically performing the action on the client device.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for media source identification and time shifted media consumption measurements are disclosed. A disclosed method identifies a media source by generating first signature information based on media presented via a media delivery device and comparing the first signature information to second signature information. The second signature information is derived from a library of signature information local to the media delivery device. The disclosed method generates a collection of matching signature information based on the comparison of the first and second signature information, and identifies a source of the media presented via the media delivery device based on the collection of matching signature information.
Abstract:
Signaturing methods and apparatus as described. In one example, a signaturing method includes capturing an audio signal, applying a first window function to a portion of the captured audio signal to produce a first windowed audio block, applying a second window function to the portion of the captured audio signal to produce a second windowed audio block, determining a first characteristic of a band of frequencies in the first windowed audio block, determining a second characteristic of the band of frequencies in the second windowed audio block, comparing the first characteristic to the second characteristic, and assigning a signature bit representative of the portion of the captured audio signal based on the comparison of the first characteristic and the second characteristic. Other examples are described.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for managing digital video data are described. The digital video data maybe managed by employing a computing device to extract metadata from the video file and calculate a unique video signature associated with the video file. The computing device then uploads the metadata and unique video signature to a server which stores the metadata in a lookup table according to the unique video signature.
Abstract:
Hashes are short summaries or signatures of data files which can be used to identify the file. Hashing multimedia content (audio, video, images) is difficult because the hash of original content and processed (e.g. compressed) content may differ significantly. The disclosed method generates robust hashes for multimedia content, for example, audio clips. The audio clip is divided (12) into successive (preferably overlapping) frames. For each frame, the frequency spectrum is divided (15) into bands. A robust property of each band (e.g. energy) is computed (16) and represented (17) by a respective hash bit. An audio clip is thus represented by a concatenation of binary hash words, one for each frame. To identify a possibly compressed audio signal, a block of hash words derived therefrom is matched by a computer (20) with a large database (21). Such matching strategies are also disclosed. In an advantageous embodiment, the extraction process also provides information (19) as to which of the hash bits are the least reliable. Flipping these bits considerably improves the speed and performance of the matching process.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for gathering audience measurement data relating to receipt of and/or exposure to audio data by an audience member. Audio data is monitored to detect a monitoring code. Based on detection of the monitoring code, a signature characterizing the audio data is extracted.
Abstract:
A user (102) hears an audio program being broadcast and can record a sample of the audio. The sample is then conveyed to an analyzing means (106) to determine to which broadcast station the user is listening. The analyzing means monitors many broadcast channels. Thus, characteristics of the audio sample and samples taken from the broadcast channels can be compared to find a match. Broadcast information pertaining to the broadcast channel from which the match was found may then be reported back to the user, combined with an advertisement of a promotion, prize notification, discount offers, and other information specific for a certain radio station for example.
