    Abstract: A web former for a textile card or the like in which fibers in an air stream are delivered into a housing divided by a perforated plate into two chambers. The fibers fall to the bottom of one chamber and are formed into a web by three rollers. The plate is shaken by a motor to avoid build-up of fibers at the perforations and ensure that the fibers fall. A disc having sixty radial black bars is mounted for rotation on one roller to periodically interrupt the path between a light source and phototransistor to produce a pulse train which is applied to a counter and a monostable multi-vibrator. A logic flip-flop connects the counter and multivibrator to a relay controlling the shaker motor for delaying turning on the motor until the counter reaches a predetermined count but turning off the motor when the multi-vibrator times out.

    Abstract: A shaft for depositing fibre flock in reptures for conveying flocks pneumatically to such shafts. The opening to enable the air conveying the flock into the shaft to pass out of the shaft consists of a horizontal opening extending over at least the greatest part of the width of a wall of said shaft. In this opening a roller is disposed which has a plurality of parallel annular surfaces lying in substantially vertical planes, the intervals between these surfaces being smaller than the size of the flock which is to be conveyed.

    Abstract: A fiber feeding device having an uplift apron and a feed apron at its lower reach. In front of the uplift apron is an area defined at its upper level by a level control which senses the height of fibers and an sharply angularly disposed front boundry member by which a fiber roll tumbling reserve area is developed. The level control starts and stops the feed apron which is otherwise driven only concurrently with the drive of the lift apron and at a reduced speed to keep from overfeeding the lift apron and to keep the fibers in the reserve area at a substantially constant amount to effect improved fiber opening and feeding of a constant amount of fibers by the lift apron.

    Abstract: A conveyor delivers a series of cylindrical wrapped fibrous modules to a station where the module is lifted off the conveyor and an operation conducted on the module. One operation is to find a tail, or unattached segment, of the cover. Another operation is to remove the cover, by slitting and then unwinding it. The cover is delivered to a storage area and the contents of the module are delivered into a hopper, or in some embodiments, into a disperser. In some embodiments, a grabber moves the slit cover from adjacent a slitting position to a storage area and includes a guide wheel for moving a conveyor up and down in response to the configuration of the round module. In one embodiments, the plastic cover is removed manually by workers guiding the plastic wrap as it is unrolled by the unrolling device.
