    摘要: Welding electrodes with a welding face for contact with a metal surface for electrical resistance welding are provided with concentric contoured rings formed into the face. The rings may, for example, be ridges upstanding in the face or grooves depressed into the face. The contoured rings may be radially spaced with relatively flat (depending on the curvature of the face) intervening rings. When the electrode is pressed into contact with the surface of the workpiece for delivery of a welding current, the features of the concentric rings penetrate surface oxides or other conductivity barriers. When ongoing welding operations have eroded the contoured rings they may be rapidly reformed in the weld face in a surface re-dressing operation.

It is characteristic that the spring element has been mounted from the inlet end in the first portion of length of the longitudinal hole, which portion of length 4 has a greater cross-sectional area than a second portion of length 5. There are also claims for an associated spring element 20 and a welding torch with a contact nozzle as above mounted.

The first and second welding torch members may be secured to a welding torch. A power source may be used to provide power to the electrode through the welding torch member.

    摘要: A quick release mig gun tip comprises a contact tip having an exterior frusto-conical surface and external threads, and a gas diffuser having an internal frusto-conical surface and internal threads. The threads are preferably stub acme threads. The contact tip is assembled to the gas diffuser by engaging their threads until the frusto-conical surfaces mate. Large currents can be conducted through the frusto-conical surfaces and the threads without causing excessive resistance heating. The contact tip threads are designed so that assembly and release of the contact tip requires only one turn relative to the gas diffuser.

    摘要: A welding gun tip has an axial passage therethrough for the accommodation of a welding wire which extends through and projects beyond the free end of the welding tip. At the free end of the welding tip is an annular guide through which the welding wire extends. The guide is formed of material which is sufficiently harder than that from which the welding wire is formed to prevent the formation of a groove or channel in the guide as a result of movement of the welding wire relative to the welding tip. The guide is formed of dielectric material so as to avoid arcing between the welding wire and the welding tip.

The assembly is comprised of a central rod electrode having circumferentially grouped or nested thereabout in longitudinally aligned relationship a plurality of lesser diameter rod electrodes. Each of the rods in the assembly carries thereon a novel flux coating productive during the welding operation of a nickel-chromium-molybdenum type alloy characterized as dense, porous-free and homogenous. The flux composition incorporates defined amounts of molybdenum and tungsten, and there is obtained by practice of the invention weld metal of low carbon content and substantially improved physical properties.
