Upon replacing the printing plate wound around a plate cylinder by using a scaffold installed between a plurality of printing units 05a through 05d disposed at an interval along a travel path of a web, the method includes a step of dividing a part of the scaffold on a side where work for replacing the printing plate is performed, and constructing the divided scaffold to be capable of being raised and lowered, forming a released web area of the web 11 in a region from an in-feed section 04 to a dryer section 07 by forming a clearance between blanket cylinders 17a and 17b for nipping the web from both sides in the printing unit, a step of lowering the divided scaffold to a position adapted for the work for replacing the printing plate of an upper plate cylinder 15a while pressing down the web with a lower surface of the divided scaffold by utilizing a sag of the web in the released web area, and a step of performing the work for replacing the printing plate of the upper plate cylinder by using the divided scaffold.

A method and an apparatus provide and transfer cassettes for printing plates to a device for removing printing plates from a cassette. The cassettes are stored in compartments disposed above one another in a magazine and are introduced into the magazine and removed through a loading opening. The cassettes are transferred to the device for removing printing plates through a transfer opening and are taken back from there. The cassettes are moved in a horizontal movement plane between the loading opening and the magazine and between the transfer opening and the magazine. The loading opening, the transfer opening and the movement plane are located at the same height. The magazine is raised and lowered vertically as desired. The cassettes are moved by a friction drive disposed in the movement plane. The activation of the friction drive releases a spring force brake, which blocks the cassettes.

The image-setting device is decoupled from the frame via decoupling feet that stand on the floor through cutouts in the frame. If the image-setting device is decoupled from the frame, it is problematic or at least time-consuming to align the image-setting device and the frame with respect to one another. Alignment is particularly necessary when the frame contains further processing stations and transport systems. Simpler and more rapid alignment can be achieved by at least one guiding alignment element assisting the alignment of the image-setting device and of the frame with respect to one another.

The first rotary member is rotatably, axially supported by the support member. The second rotary member is axially supported by the support member to be movable and rotatable. When the old plate is held by the first and second rotary members, the one-way clutch allows at least one of the first and second rotary members to rotate in the first direction to disengage the old plate from the plate cylinder, and regulates it from rotating in the second direction opposite to the first direction.

A loading table for flexographic printing plates is disclosed wherein pneumatic suction is employed to secure the printing plate to the loading table and pneumatic pressure is employed to reduce the friction when conveying the printing plate from the loading table to an imaging cylinder. The loading table comprises a plurality of openings connected to a reversible pump. Pneumatic suction or pressure from the pump is transferred to the printing plate via the openings in the loading table. While immobilized on the loading table with pneumatic suction, the flexographic plates can be prepared for imaging by peeling the protective coating from the active layer. The coupling of the plate to the loading table surface facilitates such preparatory steps without excessive handling of the plate. After preparation, the pneumatic pressure is reversed and a thin layer of air is created underneath the plate reducing the friction and permitting simple transfer of the plate to an imaging cylinder for further processing.
