Abstract: A method and system for determining risk indicators for intersections. A method includes receiving, by a computing node from intersection proximate sensors at each intersection, intersection data. For each intersection, the method includes determining, by the computing node for each connected vehicle proximate to an intersection, a driver risk score based on driver distraction data from the intersection data for the intersection, determining, by the computing node, a near miss score based on the intersection data for the intersection, and assigning, by the computing node for the intersection, an intersection risk indicator level based on an exponential moving average of intersection risk indicator scores determined from driver risk scores and near miss scores. The method includes providing, by the computing node, intersection risk indicator levels to each connected vehicle to facilitate control decisions by each connected vehicle when approaching intersections.

Abstract: A vehicle lighting system includes a light assembly and an electronic controller. The light assembly includes one or more lights configured to illuminate an external area that is in a vicinity of the vehicle. The electronic controller is programmed to receive a battery status signal from a battery of the vehicle. The electronic controller is further programmed to control the light assembly to illuminate the one or more lights to display a status of the battery when the vehicle is in a predetermined condition. The predetermined condition is at least one of a condition in which a remote electronic device is within a vicinity of the vehicle, a condition in which the vehicle has transitioned from a locked state to an unlocked state, and a condition in which the vehicle is about to be transitioned from the locked state to the unlocked state.

Abstract: A vehicle body structure includes an engine cradle and an impact receiving structure. A forward end of the first side portion and a first lateral end of a front portion of the engine cradle are fixedly attached to one another. The first side portion has a rearward section and a forward section, the rearward section being horizontally oriented and the forward section extending upward and forward from the rearward section defining an acute angle therebetween, the acute angle being between 30 and 35 degrees. The impact receiving structure is installed to the first side portion of the engine cradle proximate an intersection between the first side portion and the front member. A lower surface of the impact receiving structure extends downward along the forward section of the first side portion further defining the acute angle of the forward section of the first side portion of the engine cradle.

Abstract: Controlling a vehicle using contextual navigation assistance can include defining a context for the vehicle using sensor data for a plurality of time points while the vehicle traverses between a starting and stopping location, the context being one of multiple contexts, and each associated with at least one candidate variable for inclusion in an ordered representation of information, classifying the vehicle into a phase of multiple phases associated with different proximities of the vehicle to a maneuver, each phase associated with at least one candidate variable for inclusion in the ordered representation, and generating, using the phase and the context, the ordered representation. The ordered representation is ranked from most likely to least likely information that is necessary, during a current phase, to successfully complete the maneuver. The ordered representation is produced by a user interface so that it can be used to control the vehicle.

Abstract: A proactive pedal algorithm is used to modify an accelerator pedal map to ensure the deceleration when the accelerator pedal is released matches driver expectation. Modifying the accelerator pedal map provides the driver of a vehicle the sensation that the vehicle resists moving when travelling in dense scenes with potentially high deceleration requirements and coasts easily in scenes with low deceleration requirements. The accelerator pedal map is modified based on a scene determination to classify other remote vehicles as in-lane, neighbor-lane, or on-coming.
