摘要: An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image forming units each including a single image carrier, a single writing device and a plurality of developing means each including a single developing roller for developing a latent image formed on the image carrier by the writing device with a developer to thereby produce a toner image. The image forming units are spaced by a preselected distance along the same surface of an intermediate image transfer belt to which the toner image is to be transferred from the image carrier. A selecting device causes the developing means to selectively perform development. A single bias power source applies a bias voltage for development to the developing means. A bias switching device applies the bias voltage output from the bias power source to one of the developing means selected by the selecting device according to the outputs of sensors respectively included in the image forming units.

摘要: A method of recording an image on a recording paper by ink-droplets includes the step of covering a surface of the recording paper by a substance that increases, when contacted with an ink droplet, the viscosity of the ink by causes a swelling or melting, and apply an ink droplet for forming an ink image. After the ink image is formed on the recording paper, the substance is removed from the surface of the recording paper. Further, a method of forming a viscous image on an intermediate medium and transferring the viscous image to a recording sheet is also disclosed.

摘要: An image formation apparatus including first and second image formation sections each of which can form an image with at least two colors. A mark is provided on the intermediate transfer belt. This mark indicates a particular position on the belt. A belt mark sensor detects the mark on the belt. A timing instruction signal with which a timing of image formation is instructed to the first and second image formation sections is initialized each time the mark on the belt is detected.

摘要: An original to be copied is placed in a given position. An exposure optics including a movable part is employed to focus an optical image of slitwise segment of the original on a photosensitive member. The photosensitive member moves in a given direction and at a given speed throughout the exposure. The location where the image of slitwise segment of the original is focused moves through the space of the arrangement at a given speed and in a direction opposite from the direction of movement of the photosensitive member throughout the exposure. Consequently, the location corresponding to the initiation of the exposure is situated downstream as viewed in the direction of movement of the surface of the photosensitive member while the location corresponding to the end of the exposure is situated upstream as viewed in the same direction. Upon termination of the exposure, the photosensitive member continues its movement which is the same as during the exposure while the movable part of the exposure optics returns to its start position.

摘要: A cover (24) is hinged to the top of a housing (22) in such a manner as to be rockable from a closed position and an open position. A platen (23) is provided on top of the cover (24) for supporting an original document (26). A movable charging and scanning unit (32), endless photoconductive belt (27), cleaning unit (61) and fixing unit (54) are provided in the cover (24). A developing unit (39), sheet cassette (44), (46) and feed units and a transfer unit (41) are provided in the housing (22). The various units are easily detachable from the bottom of the cover (24) or the top of the housing (22), thus facilitating easy maintenance and removal of jammed sheets. The overall arrangement provides a substantial reduction in the size of the copying machine (21), especially in the vertical dimension. The apparatus is arranged and controlled in such a manner that for a multiple copying operation, the belt (27) is alternatingly stopped while the charging and scanning unit (32) forms an electrostatic image thereon and then driven for one half revolution. For a single copying operation, the belt (27) is stopped while the charging and scanning unit (32) forms an electrostatic image thereon and then driven for one revolution.

摘要: A horizontal platen is translatable through a first exposure position above a photoconductive drum for supporting bulky original documents such as books. A first focussing optical fiber array is disposed between the first exposure position and the drum. A sheet feed mechanism is provided at a second exposure position for feedingly scanning original documents in the form of sheets. The second exposure position is on a circle concentric with the first exposure position and a second focussing optical fiber array is disposed between the second exposure position and the drum. The sheet feed mechanism is located below the platen. A directed light source is movable to selectively direct light to the first or second exposure position. In one form of the invention only one focussing optical fiber array is provided which is movable between the first exposure position and the drum or between the second exposure position and the drum.
