Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, including a processing system for performing operations for determining service requirements of a call session at first user equipment associated with a communication network, determining a first codec to facilitate the call session at the first user equipment according to the service requirements of the call session, searching a session border controller table according to the first codec to obtain a first resource identifier associated with a first session border controller type to facilitate the call session at the user equipment, receiving a first address of a first session border controller associated with the communication network from a domain name server associated with the communication network responsive to a first query including the first resource identifier, and sending a first transport protocol message to the first session border controller according to the first address. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a method at a gateway device that registers at least one mobile phone number with the gateway device via a femtocell integrated with the gateway device when a mobile device associated with the at least one mobile phone number is within range of the femtocell, registers at least one voice over internet protocol phone number with the gateway device, and selectively receives and makes calls using one of a set top box registered with the gateway device, the mobile device registered with the femtocell, a voice over internet protocol phone corresponding to the at least one voice over internet protocol phone number. Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method and system to interconnect a first communications carrier to a second communications carrier by receiving a request to connect a communication from a first carrier to a second carrier; filtering the request to identify a specific name authority pointer (NPA-NXX) number from a plurality of specific name authority pointer (NPA-NXX) numbers; when the filter identifies the specific name authority pointer (NPA-NXX) number, modifying a private ENUM (tElephone NUmber Mapping) domain of the request to include an intercarrier ENUM apex based domain with a DNS (domain name server) recursion zone; retrieving a routing record using a domain name server (DNS) indicated by the intercarrier ENUM apex based domain; and routing the communication to the second carrier using the routing record. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies pertaining to enabling internet protocol carrier peering to foreign network domains are provided. A method includes identifying, by a computer system executing within an originating carrier network, a plurality of numbering plan area identifiers corresponding to a receiving carrier network. The method further includes accessing, by the computer system executing within the originating carrier network based on the plurality of numbering plan area identifiers, a plurality of numbering plan area zone file records stored on a private enabled telephone number mapping server. The method also includes creating, by the computer system executing within the originating carrier network, a single instance of a name authority pointer record placeholder within each of the plurality of numbering plan area zone file records stored on the private enabled telephone number mapping server.
