Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method and system to interconnect a first communications carrier to a second communications carrier by receiving a request to connect a communication from a first carrier to a second carrier; filtering the request to identify a specific name authority pointer (NPA-NXX) number from a plurality of specific name authority pointer (NPA-NXX) numbers; when the filter identifies the specific name authority pointer (NPA-NXX) number, modifying a private ENUM (tElephone NUmber Mapping) domain of the request to include an intercarrier ENUM apex based domain; retrieving a routing record using a domain name server (DNS) indicated by the intercarrier ENUM apex based domain; and routing the communication to the second carrier using the routing record. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining from a transport protocol message, capability information associated with user equipment associated with a call session, determining a first codec to provide a first media service to the user equipment associated with the call session according to the capability information, and responsive to determining the first codec, searching a codec table to obtain a first resource identifier associated with a first media resource function to provide the first media service according to the first codec. If the first resource identifier associated with the first codec is not available at the codec table, accessing the first resource identifier associated with the first media resource function from a domain name server and, in turn, transmitting a first request to the first media resource function to provide the first media service to the user equipment associated with the call session. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying a mobile device in communication with a small-cell via managed spectrum, wherein the small-cell is located at a subscriber premises, and wherein the small-cell is in further communication with a mobile network core. Each of a first Internet protocol (IP) address and a second IP address are associated with the mobile device, which accesses network traffic using one of the first IP address, the second IP address or both. Offload traffic associated with the mobile device is identified, wherein the offload traffic is exchanged between the mobile device and the small-cell at the subscriber premises using the managed spectrum. The offload traffic is associated with the first IP address, wherein user data are exchanged between the mobile device and other equipment at the subscriber premises without the user data being exchanged with the network core. Abstract: A method and apparatus for a computer and telecommunication network which can receive, send and manage information from or to a subscriber of the network, based on the subscriber's configuration. The network is made up of at least one cluster containing voice servers which allow for telephony, speech recognition, text-to-speech and conferencing functions, and is accessible by the subscriber through standard telephone connections or through internet connections. The network also utilizes a database and file server allowing the subscriber to maintain and manage certain contact lists and administrative information. A web server is also connected to the cluster thereby allowing access to all functions through internet connections.

Abstract: The use of virtual resources providing communication services is adjusted based on load. A determination is made, for a specific number range, whether the virtual telephone number mapping service instances dedicated to the specific number range are being underutilized. If the virtual telephone number mapping service instances dedicated to the specific number range are being underutilized, a virtual telephone number mapping service instance dedicated to the specific number range is selected for removal. A determination is also made, for the specific number range, whether a number of virtual telephone number mapping service instances dedicated to the specific number range is sufficient to handle requests for communication services. If the number of virtual telephone number mapping service instances dedicated to the specific number range is not sufficient to handle the requests, instantiation of a virtual telephone mapping instance is initiated.

Abstract: A system for providing an architecture for enabling internet protocol (IP) carrier peering is disclosed. The system provides mechanisms for providing carrier telephone number mapping (ENUM)-based routing for subscribers of a first carrier to locate and connect with subscribers of another IP peering carrier. The system may receive an IP call from a first device of a first carrier that is destined for a second device of a second carrier. The call is forwarded to a breakout gateway control function/transit function that initiates a modified ENUM query to an internetwork packet exchange partner (IPX-P) network using an intercarrier ENUM apex domain. To retrieve a record for routing the call, the modified ENUM query is sent to an IPX-P ENUM via a domain name service name server record configuration directing to the IP address of the IPX-P ENUM. Based on the record, the call is then routed to the second device.

Abstract: A method for telephony includes receiving at an Internet telephony service provider a subscriber request to place a call to a telephone number. A cache associated with the internet telephony service provider is queried to check if the cache holds a record for the telephone number. If the cache holds the record, the record is obtained. If the cache does not hold the record, a request is sent to a database server that maintains a database of records associating endpoint user terminal telephone numbers of subscribers with respective packet network addresses of the endpoint user terminal. The call is placed to the endpoint user terminal telephone number via a public switched telephone network while the request is sent to the database server to retrieve the packet network address of the endpoint user terminal to which calls to the telephone number should be placed.

Abstract: Virtualization of a physical telephone number mapping service is provided. An amount of memory needed for handling requests from users of a physical telephone number mapping service provided by a communication network is determined. A listing of different virtual machine flavors available for instantiation is searched. Each virtual machine flavor has a different respective memory capacity. A determination is made whether there is a virtual machine flavor available for instantiation that has a memory capacity adequate to handle the requests. Responsive to determining that there is a virtual machine flavor available for instantiation that has the memory capacity adequate to handle the requests, instantiation of the virtual machine flavor is initiated for handling the requests.
