    Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for providing container specific information as part of in-situ OAM, SRH or NSH of a data packet in order to provide a more holistic overview of a path traversed by a data packet in a network. In one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of providing container specific information includes receiving a data packet at a corresponding container; determining identification information of the corresponding container; modifying the data packet to include the container specific information to yield a modified data packet; and forwarding the modified data packet to a next destination based on destination information included in the data packet.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network identifies a packet to be sent to a destination in the network via a path using segment routing. The device determines a list of one or more unique identifiers for one or more of the nodes along the path. The device includes a segment routing header with the packet, the segment routing header comprising a set of segment identifiers and the list of one or more unique identifiers. The device sends the packet with the segment routing header towards the destination in the network. One or more receiving nodes that receive the packet use the set of segment identifiers to route the packet towards the destination and the list of one or more unique identifiers to notify the device when the packet was not sent to the destination via the path.

    Abstract: A method, network device, and computer readable medium are disclosed. In one embodiment of the method, a data packet is received at a node within a first segment routing enabled access network. The first access network is connected, via a first area edge node, to a first area of a subdivided segment routing enabled network, and a specified destination for the data packet is reachable via a second segment routing enabled access network connected to the subdivided network. The method embodiment further includes receiving from a centralized controller a remote segment identifier stack, where the remote segment identifier stack encodes a path extending from the first area edge node to the second access network. The embodiment of the method continues with encapsulating the data packet with a full segment identifier stack comprising the remote segment identifier stack, and forwarding the encapsulated data packet toward the first area edge node.

    Abstract: A method for applying network services to data traffic forwarded between virtual private network (VPN) sites includes: receiving a data packet addressed to a target site associated with the VPN, determining services to be applied to the data packet according to a service chain, where the determining is a function of at least one of the VPN, the origin site or the target site, adding an indication of a VPN forwarding context onto the data packet, encapsulating the data packet with Network Service Header encapsulation, where a header for the encapsulated data packet indicates at least the service chain; forwarding the encapsulated data packet in accordance with the service chain, receiving the encapsulated data packet at the end of the service chain, terminating the service chain, removing the encapsulation, and forwarding the data packet to a target destination per the indication of a VPN forwarding context.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, an ingress network virtualization edge (NVE) in a computer network generates an echo packet, and sets an indication in the echo packet that the echo packet is for overlay path validation. In addition, the ingress NVE sets a message type of the echo packet to a generic echo request, and includes virtualization network (VN) context information within the echo packet. Once setting a destination address of the echo packet as an egress NVE address and including an indication to the egress NVE that the echo packet is an operations, administration, and management (OAM) message, the ingress NVE may then send the echo packet toward the egress NVE (e.g., to validate the VN context information and/or to reveal multipath traces).

    Abstract: A system and method for facilitating communication with segment routing in a cable modem network environment may be provided. A pseudowire (PW) control packet including segment routing information including a PW segment identifier (SID) for establishing a data session between the RPD and a network element over a packet switched network is received at a remote physical device (RPD). The PW SID may be indicative of a segment in the packet switched network to be used for communicating PW data packets of the data session. The PW control packet and the PW data packets being are emulations of a point-to-point connection between the RPD and the network element. A mapping between the PW SID and the data session is written into a segment table of the RPD.
