    Abstract: A method implemented by a domain controller in a network comprises transmitting, by a transmitter of the domain controller to a super controller, an update message comprising path information for one or more parallel paths having a common wavelength from a source to a destination, wherein the one or more parallel paths are free of optical impairments when the update message is transmitted to the super controller, receiving, by a receiver of the domain controller from the super controller, an initiate message comprising an identifier of a path selected from the one or more parallel paths, and provisioning, by a processor of the domain controller, the path based on a verification that the path selected by the super controller is free of optical impairments.

    Abstract: A method of negotiating services. The method includes transmitting a service request to a provider device. The service request includes a base level of service at a base cost and alternative levels of service each at an alternative cost. Each of the alternative levels of service includes an alternative service parameter that has been downgraded relative to a corresponding base level service parameter. The alternative cost is less than the base cost. The method includes receiving a confirmation message from the provider device. The confirmation message indicates whether the base level of service or an alternative level of service has been accepted by the provider device. The method also includes receiving data at the base level of service or at the one of the one or more negotiated levels of service in accordance with the confirmation message.

    Abstract: A method of establishing an end-to-end tunnel for a virtual network extending across multiple domains using a first network controller element managing a first domain is provided. The method includes receiving a request from a second network controller element managing the first network controller element for an intra-domain locally-learned tunnel identifier (LLTI), sending an instruction to an egress network element of the first domain to generate the intra-domain LLTI in accordance with the request, receiving the intra-domain LLTI from the egress network element in accordance with the instruction, and sending the intra-domain LLTI to an ingress network element of the first domain. A method of establishing an end-to-end tunnel for a virtual network extending across multiple domains using an inter-domain LLTI is provided.

    Abstract: A computer-implemented method for establishing virtual network (VN) routes includes receiving, at a Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller and from a customer network, a first routing request. The first routing request includes a destination address for a VN and a first Quality of Service (QoS) indicator associated with a first service of the VN. The SDN controller determines a first VN route in a provider network based on the first QoS indicator and the destination address. The SDN controller associates a first VN label with the first VN route. The SDN controller transmits a first routing response to the customer network. The first routing response includes the first VN label. The SDN controller transmits the first VN label and first routing information indicating the first VN route to an edge router of the provider network.

    Abstract: An apparatus comprising an application cross-stratum optimization (CSO) gateway (ACG) coupled to an application layer that handles a plurality of servers, a network CSO gateway (NCG) coupled to a network layer that handles a plurality of network nodes and configured to communicate with the ACG using a CSO protocol (CSOP), and a CSO interface established between the ACG and the NCG that enables the exchange of a plurality of CSOP messages to allow joint application-network resource allocation, provisioning, and optimization. Also disclosed is a network apparatus implemented method comprising sending a user profile from a user plane to an application plane, sending an application profile from the application plane to a network plane via a CSO interface between an ACG and a NCG, and sending network capability information from the network plane to the application plane via the CSO interface.
