摘要: In an input scanning system, as would be present in a digital copier, a “template” of similar visual elements or objects, such as logos and other designs, is detected among a series of scanned images. The common objects form a reference image against which subsequently-recorded input images are compared. If bounding boxes around objects in the input images match those in the reference image, the objects in the bounding boxes are attempted to be matched to those in the reference image. If objects in the input image and reference image match, then the image data from the input image is coded using a pointer to the corresponding object in the reference image.

摘要: What is disclosed is a system and method to improve the black and white image quality of tag-based color imaging systems in a color image path by making use of the additional two channels available. The present method exploits the resources of the two un-utilized channels during black and white processing. The single channel black-and white image is replicated into all three channels at the output of the storage memory. Segmentation tags are fed into each channel to control the image processing. Additional filters, TRCs and rendering methods will be available due to processing in all the 3 channels. Resources may additionally include such things as: filters, TRC mapping, and halftoning modules. The video output from the output image processing is merged back based on the segmentation tags. Different de-screen filters with various cut-off frequencies and enhancement filters are applied to the image based on pixel classification. One example of such an application is to use different cut-off frequency filters for text-on-tint pixels and different halftone frequency pixels. The number of TRCs and halftone screens available per page has also increased by 3 times. The method also applies to any image path that has extra channels available for certain scanning/copying modes.

摘要: In a mixed raster content (MRC) image data format, where a separation plane is used to define portions of the image to compressed in a lossy or lossless manner, edge pixels are identified in the separation plane. Each edge pixel is modified to assume a maximum luminance and most neutral chrominance found among neighboring pixels. The modification of the edge pixel data minimizes artifacts such as fringe effects when the image data is compressed and subsequently decompressed.

摘要: A system and method for selective scaling of an image by selective implementation of a window averaging processing technique or an interpolation processing technique. For enlargement scaling, the interpolation processor is implemented. For reduction scaling, the window averaging processor is implemented. For anamorphic scaling, the window averaging processor may be selected and implemented for reduction processing pursuant to a two-pass processing technique wherein the interpolator processing will be implemented thereafter. Image tags are provided for selective scaling of each area of an image according to the type of content of each area by selective implementation of a window averaging processing technique or an interpolation processing technique. The interpolation processor is implemented for line drawing areas of an image, and the window averaging processor is implemented for contone areas of the image. For anamorphic scaling with image tags, a two-pass system is provided which performs a first-pass reduction in one direction followed by a second-pass enlargement in the remaining direction, wherein the reduction is performed in the manner described for reduction scaling. A one-pass system is also provided which provides a second serially connected interpolator so that the aforementioned reduction can be performed on one dimension in a first step, followed by enlargement in the remaining direction in a following step on the same pass.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a method and system for determining a billing structure for outputting documents using an image processing apparatus. If image data of the document includes color pixels, a billing structure is determined based on an estimated total color pixel count. The color pixels of the image data are counted in a device independent space and the total color pixel count of the image data to be output in a device dependent space is estimated. Based on the estimation, a billing structure is chosen. Processing and determining a billing structure based on image data in the device independent space avoids charging a customer for color print job when only a small amount of color pixels are printed. It also encourages determining charges independently of the marking engine or output device.

摘要: A system and method of billing for scanning service costs is provided to examine content of a page and apply a cost function to approximate the cost of scanning the page. Examining the page includes detecting an object in the page, determining a type of the detected object, determining an approximate file size of the page, and determining an approximate area of coverage of the detected object within the page. A usage profile of each type of detected object is calculated and stored. The cost function uses the detected object, the approximate file size, the approximate area of coverage, and a weight value associated with the type of detected object to approximate the cost of the page. When costs are calculated over a period of time, the weight value of each type of detected object may be adjusted based on the usage profile for each type of detected object.
