Abstract:
An actuation assembly includes a first shaft comprising a first end disposed opposite a second end. The actuation assembly further includes a second shaft with a first end disposed opposite a second end. The first end of the second shaft is disposed within the second end of the first shaft such that the first end of the second shaft can move relative the second end of the first shaft. A fluid chamber formed between the first shaft and the second shaft at the second end of the first shaft. Magnetorheologic fluid is disposed inside the fluid chamber and a magnetic field generating coil is disposed around the second end of the first shaft and the first end of the second shaft.
Abstract:
A propulsion system and related methods are disclosed. A propulsion system may have a propulsor, an energy conversion system, an energy storage system that stores electrical energy, and a turbine. The propulsor may be in electrical communication with the energy conversion system, and the energy conversion system may receive electrical energy from the turbine or the energy storage system and deliver it to the propulsor. In this manner, a vehicle may be propelled by the propulsor even when the turbine is not operating.
Abstract:
A cooling supply package for an electronic component has a supply port communicating with a plurality of outer supply channels, and a return port communicating with a plurality of outer return channels. The outer supply channels and outer return channels communicate with distinct ones of openings in a slot layer and into return and supply slots, respectively. An orifice layer supplies fluid to an electronic component from supply slots and receives return fluid into the return slots after having cooled the electronic component. A cooling supply and electronic combination is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A generator rotor system having various features is disclosed. The generator rotor system has at least one main generator rotor with winding-pole sets spaced annularly about the rotor. The tendency of the rotor laminations of the poles to distort and or displace under the centrifugal force of the spinning rotor is ameliorated by a lamination clamping structure disposed axially outboard of the winding-pole sets.
Abstract:
An electro-mechanical actuator with wide operating range load includes a shaft and a speed summed differential coupled to rotate the shaft. A prime mover is coupled to the speed summed differential and is configured to react to an output torque of the screw shaft. A torsional spring coupled to the speed summed differential by way of a rotary position sensor for detecting the rotation of the screw shaft thereby measuring the output torque of the shaft for control of the prime mover.
Abstract:
A flux-regulated permanent magnet machine (PMM) includes a stationary portion and a rotating portion. The stationary portion includes a plurality of stator/armature windings. The rotating portion includes a plurality of permanent magnets and a control/field winding that is supplied with current to control the magnetic flux presented to the stator/armature windings.
Abstract:
An electrical power generation system including: a micro-turbine alternator, including: a decomposition chamber; a turbine including blades driven by combustion gases from the decomposition chamber; a blower operably connected to the decomposition chamber to provide a blown airflow thereto; one or more shafts connecting the turbine to the blower such that rotation of the turbine drives rotation of the blower; an electric generator disposed along the one or more shafts such that electrical power is generated via rotation of the one or more shafts; and a housing enclosing the electric generator within a generator cavity formed therein. The blower is configured to blow air through the generator cavity through or around the electric generator. The air is configured to exit the generator cavity to enter the turbine.
Abstract:
An electrical power generation system including a micro-turbine alternator. The micro-turbine alternator including a combustor, a first stage turbine configured to be driven by exhaust from the combustor, a second stage turbine configured to be driven by the exhaust from the combustor, at least one compressor operably connected to the combustor to provide a compressed airflow thereto, one or more shafts connecting the first stage turbine and the second stage turbine to the at least one compressor such that rotation of the first stage turbine and the second stage turbine drives rotation of the at least one compressor, and an exhaust turbine reheat cycle configured to transfer heat from the exhaust entering the first stage turbine to the exhaust entering the second stage turbine.
Abstract:
A rotor assembly of an electric machine includes a rotor body and a shaft assembly located at a central axis of the rotor assembly, and operably connected to the rotor body. The shaft assembly includes a main rotor shaft operably connected to the rotor body, a center drive shaft located inside of the main rotor shaft, and a hydraulic damper sleeve located radially between the main rotor shaft, defining a plurality of cavities between the hydraulic damper sleeve and the center drive shaft. The hydraulic damper sleeve is configured to urge a fluid into and out of the plurality of cavities thereby damping relative circumferential motion between the main rotor shaft and the center drive shaft.
Abstract:
A turbine pump assembly has a turbine, a centrifugal pump, a passive electrical speed control system, and a pneumatic circuit breaker. The pneumatic circuit breaker has a plurality of elements that are configured to move to a position blocking an outlet duct of the turbine when a flow velocity exceeds a predetermined threshold. A rocket thrust vector control system is also disclosed.
