Abstract:
A variable speed pulley having rearrangement structure for causing uniform distribution of a plurality of force applying elements utilized to control the width of the pulley groove as a function of the centrifugal forces developed during changes in the speed of the pulley. The rearrangement structure includes a coil spring connected in the structure to permit relative rotational movement between the fixed and movable pulley sheave halves as a result of changes of the force applied to the movable pulley sheave half during driving operation of the pulley. The rearrangement structure effectively minimizes vibration and noise by providing improved uniformity in the distribution of the force applying elements both in the steady state and speed and force changing conditions of the pulley.
Abstract:
An electron gun for a color picture tube has beam generators for generating three electron beams and directing them toward the fluorescent screen along three paths which are parallel with each other on the same plane, and at least one pair of electrode surfaces each having three apertures centered with the three paths for forming independent main lenses so as to focus the electron beams on the fluorescent screen, the electrode surfaces being spaced apart from each other. Provided for the electrode surface are cylindrical shield members centered with the apertures and extending from the apertures in opposition to the opposing electrode surface. Outer ones of the cylindrical shield members have each an end surface inclined with respect to the center axis of the aperture so as to form inclined electric fields effective to converge the outer beams to one point to which the central beam converges.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for effectively minimizing sound emanation from a power transmission belt drive and providing extended useful life of the power transmission belt by reducing the operating temperature thereof. In the illustrated embodiment, the drive system is enclosed in a housing having one or more inlets and one or more outlets. Air moving structure is provided in association with the pulleys for causing air flow through the interior of the housing from the inlets to the outlets as an incident of operation of the drive system. In the illustrated embodiment, the pulleys are formed of heat conducting material so as to transfer heat from the belt to the air being flowed through the interior of the housing, thereby reducing the operating temperature of the belt. A sound absorber may be provided within the housing and, in the illustrated embodiment, sound absorbing means are provided on the inner surfaces of the housing, the inlets and outlets, and may be provided internally of conduits which may be coupled to the inlets and outlets as desired. Fans may be provided in the inlet and/or outlet for augmented air flow through the housing.
