摘要: Osmotically driven active agent dispenser for use in an aqueous environment that pumps a solution of active agent, such as a drug, at a predetermined, constant rate. The dispenser is in the form of a coated tablet comprising: a core of an osmotically effective active agent composition; and an inexpandable wall that encloses the core, has a controlled permeability to water and includes means, such as brittleness or sites of structural weakness, that is responsive to the pressure generated within the dispenser by imbibition of water from the environment by the core through the wall to form at least one, and usually many, passageways in situ in the wall through which the active agent composition in solution is pumped osmotically at a rate that is substantially dependent of the rate at which water is being imbibed into the dispenser.

摘要: The invention provides a local concentration management system (LCMS) for delivery of highly concentrated therapeutic agent formulations. The LCMS comprises a device comprising an elongate body defining a lumen between its proximal and distal ends, and a diffuser element, a dilutor element, or both. The diffuser element, which is selectively permeable to the agent, is operatively associated with the elongate body so that agent flows through the elongate body, and into and through the diffuser element to exit the system. The dilutor element can be operatively associated with the system to be in fluid communication with the elongate body lumen, a diffusion space defined by a diffuser element inner wall, or both. The dilutor element is selectively water permeable, but substantially impermeable to agent, to provide for dilution of the agent during transit through the system. The LCMS system is designed to disperse and/or dilute the drug delivery stream.

摘要: An osmotic delivery system having a space efficient piston. The capsule has an interior holding the piston, a beneficial agent, and an osmotic agent. The piston is movable with respect to an interior surface of the capsule, and defines a movable seal with the interior surface of the capsule. The moveable seal separates the osmotic agent from the beneficial agent. The piston has a recess that receives at least a portion of the osmotic agent. The osmotic agent imbibes liquid from a surrounding environment through a semipermeable body to cause the piston to move and in turn cause delivery of the beneficial agent from the capsule.

摘要: The present invention features a composite catheter comprising an elongate outer member and an elongate inner member positioned within the outer member so that the inner and outer members define an interstitial space. The outer member has a size and other characteristics that facilitate handling and implantation of the composite catheter, while the inner diameter of the inner member has the size and other characteristics suitable for delivery of a drug through a lumen of the inner member. The interstitial space imparts flexibility to the composite catheter by, for example, removing material from the cross-sectional area that would otherwise provide additional stiffness to the catheter, and/or by accommodating movement of the outer member relative to the inner member.
