摘要: The invention concerns a method (300) and system (100) for affecting gaming conditions based on operating conditions of a power source (126). The method includes the steps of—in a first gaming unit (110) that receives power from the power source—providing (312) a gaming environment and monitoring (314) at least one operating condition of the power source. When at least one of the operating conditions reaches a predetermined threshold, the method further includes the step of altering (320) at least one gaming condition in the gaming environment to indicate to a user that the operating condition has reached the predetermined threshold.

摘要: The invention concerns an apparatus (100) for indication of a charging condition. The apparatus includes an indication circuit (126) having at least one electromagnet (120) and a charge control circuit (128) for controlling charging current to a portable device (110). The indication circuit causes the apparatus to electromagnetically engage the portable device and the charge control circuit provides charging current to the portable device during the engagement. The indication circuit also causes the apparatus to electromagnetically decouple the portable device when the portable device is charged to a predetermined level to permit a user to remove the portable device from the apparatus.

摘要: An apparatus (10) having a portable power source (11) can make use of a plurality of differing charge depleted threshold values (and, in a preferred embodiment, corresponding visual charge-remaining indicators) to determine what level of charge remains in the portable power source (11). This in turn permits the recharging advice as suggested by the visual indicator to better track and reinforce the ordinary recharging behaviors of a given user. So configured, the total lifetime of the portable power source may be extended while also ensuring that the portable power source will be fully charged upon completion of each charging cycle.

摘要: A protection circuit (100) for use with a battery operated device (50) which includes an over temperature detector (110), a controller (130), and a voltage divider circuit (102 and 106). The voltage divider circuit includes a multi-use thermistor (102) for monitoring a temperature of a battery cell (104), a battery charger, or a battery operated device. Further, the thermistor can be operatively connected to the over temperature detector. An input voltage at the input (114) of the over temperature detector can vary relative to a variance in the monitored temperature. The temperature detector can signal the controller to terminate the charging of the battery cell if the temperature exceeds a predefined value. The device discharge detector can signal the controller to terminate the discharging of the battery cell if the battery operated device determines a specific event such as water intrusion, circuit failure or a software problem.

摘要: The minimum transmit battery voltage (Vtx min) of a radio operating in a TDMA mode of operation or the stand-by battery voltage (Vstd-by) of the radio operating in a GSM mode of operation can be determined as a function of the combination of an in-slot transmit battery voltage (Vin-slot), an out-of-slot transmit battery voltage (Vout-slot), a stand-by compensation factor (&Dgr;sb), and a compensation factor (K). The stand-by compensation factor (&Dgr;sb) is related to a difference between the out-of-slot transmit battery voltage (Vout-slot) and a stand-by battery voltage (Vstd-by). The compensation factor (K) has a first value for the TDMA mode of operation and a second value for the GSM mode of operation. Each value of compensation factor (K) is related to the manner in which the radio utilizes battery power during transmission in the TDMA or GSM modes of operation.

摘要: The present invention provides a power adapter (10) adapted to couple an external antenna (17) to a communication device (30) by way of a cable (12) which is typically plugged into a cigarette lighter of a vehicle or some other power source at one end, and an input connector of the communication device (30) at the other. In particular, the present invention provides a simple one-piece vehicle power adapter which also provides RF input/output capability for connection to an external vehicle antenna. According to certain aspects of the invention, the adapter can be configured to have a variety of selection mechanisms. For example, the communication device could include an RF switch (34) and control circuitry for selecting either the internal or external antenna for optimum reception. Alternatively, the power adapter could include an external switch (70) for allowing the user to select the desired antenna. Finally, the power adapter could include a component which automatically actuates the switch to select the external antenna when the external antenna is connected to the communication device.
