摘要: A method for providing battery security in a breathing assistance system configured to provide breathing assistance to a patient is provided. A battery security system of the breathing assistance system receives battery data from a battery received in the breathing assistance system, and analyzes the received battery data to determine whether the battery is approved for use in the breathing assistance system. If the battery is determined to be approved for use in the breathing assistance system, the battery is allowed to provide power to the breathing assistance system. If the battery is not determined to be approved for use in the breathing assistance system, the battery is prevented from providing power to the breathing assistance system.

摘要: The invention concerns an apparatus (100) for indication of a charging condition. The apparatus includes an indication circuit (126) having at least one electromagnet (120) and a charge control circuit (128) for controlling charging current to a portable device (110). The indication circuit causes the apparatus to electromagnetically engage the portable device and the charge control circuit provides charging current to the portable device during the engagement. The indication circuit also causes the apparatus to electromagnetically decouple the portable device when the portable device is charged to a predetermined level to permit a user to remove the portable device from the apparatus.

摘要: A modification to existing mono-block battery design for positively indicating the operating condition of the battery by adding a failure detector. The voltage of two groups of internal series connected cells are measured and compared. An indicator of one color indicates the battery is operating normally and an indicator of a contrasting color indicates the battery is defective. The indicator may be located remotely from the failure detector. An additional embodiment provides for an optical indicator located remotely from the failure detector such that luminous energy is transferred from the failure detector to the remote indicator by an optical-conductor.

摘要: The cell type (i.e. alkaline, Ni-Cd, etc.) of a battery is determined by reference to characteristics of its electrical behavior during charging. Exemplary characteristics include the magnitude of the initial voltage rise and the rate of initial voltage rise. Depending on the outcome of this determination, the charging conditions can be changed (e.g. the charging current can be interrupted if the cell is determined to be a non-rechargeable type). The invention finds particular utility in connection with electronic products such as calculators and portable computers.

摘要: A battery monitoring/control device includes a monitor/control device (35) that is operable to be integrated with a microprocessor system. The system includes a CPU (12) that interfaces with a data bus (14) and an address bus (16). The CPU (12) interfaces through a data line (40) with the control/monitor device (35) and control lines (28) and (34). Commands and data can be input to the control/monitor circuit (35) and data received therefrom. The control/monitor device (35) includes a controller/data register block (36) and a battery charge control/monitor block (44). The device (35) is operable to monitor the battery voltage of a secondary battery (46) during charging thereof and to control the rate of charge through a transistor (66). The battery monitor (90) determines when the voltage on the battery (46) reaches a predetermined level indicating full-charge. A discharge circuit (94) controls a discharge transistor (72) to discharge the battery (46) through a sense resistor (68) for conditioning of the battery. The system receives current from the battery (46) through the resistor (68), the current monitored by a Gas Gauge monitor (92). The Gas Gauge monitor (92) maintains a measurement of the capacity of the battery (46). Control and status information is maintained in control/status register (56), which are set to a default value in a default register (57) upon power up. The CPU (12) can store control information in the registers (56) in order to control the device (35). Further, status information of the device (35) can be stored in the register (56) for access by the CPU (12) through a bus interface (52).

摘要: An electronic device for automatically discharging and charging nickel cadmium batteries. When used regularly the device will prevent `memory` from developing in nickel cadmium cells. The prevention of memory development greatly increases the batteries' useful life and provides for predictable performance. The device is simple to operate, requires no technical knowledge on the part of the user, is completely automatic requiring no monitoring while the device functions, and is relatively inexpensive. The device is intended to replace the standard battery charger while providing a most useful function in addition to charging alone. The device discharges a battery or multiple configuration of batteries (battery packs) to a very specific level and then automatically charges the batteries at a slow rate. Charge and discharge rates are low to preclude damage to the batteries. The device employes a precision voltage reference which is used to compare against the discharging batteries' voltage to sense exactly when to exit discharge and enter charge. The precision voltage reference is also utilized to compare against the charging batteries' voltage so as to indicate when the battery has reached the full charge state. An indicating means is also provided to indicate that discharge is active. The device includes a simple means for disabling the discharge mode so as to function as a charger only and includes a means for restarting the discharge mode at any time.
