    摘要: In one embodiment, a method for drilling a wellbore includes injecting drilling fluid into a top of a tubular string disposed in the wellbore at a first flow rate. The tubular string includes: a drill bit disposed on a bottom thereof, tubular joints connected together, a longitudinal bore therethrough, and a port through a wall thereof. The drilling fluid exits the drill bit and carries cuttings from the drill bit. The cuttings and drilling fluid (returns) flow to the surface via an annulus defined between the tubular string and the wellbore. The method further includes rotating the drill bit while injecting the drilling fluid; remotely removing a plug from the port, thereby opening the port; and injecting drilling fluid into the port at a second flow rate while adding a tubular joint or stand of joints to the tubular string. The injection of drilling fluid into the tubular string is continuously maintained between drilling and adding the joint or stand to the drill string. The method further includes remotely installing a plug into the port, thereby closing the port. The first and second flow rates may be substantially equal or different.

    摘要: The present invention generally provides a reduced downtime maintenance apparatus and method for replacing and/or repairing a subassembly in sealing equipment for oil field use. The invention allows the removal of rotating portions of a rotary drilling head without having to remove non-rotating portions. The reduction in weight and size allows a more efficient repair and/or replacement of a principal wear component such as a packer. Specifically, the packer in a rotary drilling head can be removed independent of bearings and other portions of the rotary drilling head. Furthermore, because of the relatively small size and light weight, the packer can be removed typically without having to use a crane to lift a rotary BOP and without disassembling portions of the drilling platform. In some embodiments, the packer can be removed with the drill pipe without additional equipment. Furthermore, the packer can be removed remotely without necessitating manual disengagement typically needed below the platform. The invention also provides a fluid actuated system to maintain a pre-load system on the bearing.

    摘要: A two trip sidetrack casing milling apparatus for elongating and enlarging a previously formed window in a cased borehole in preparation for a subsequent sidetracking drilling operation is disclosed. The apparatus consists of three mills on a shaft, a first window mill is secured to an end of a shaft. The first window mill forms a diameter larger than a diameter of a subsequent sidetracking drill bit that is passed through the window. A second pilot mill is secured to the shaft and strategically positioned above the first window mill. The second pilot mill forms a diameter that is less than the diameter of the first window mill. A third watermelon mill is secured to the shaft and strategically positioned above the second pilot mill. The third watermelon mill forms a diameter that is at least the same diameter as the first window mill. The second, smaller in diameter pilot mill serves to move toward the window thereby straightening the shaft while further cutting a portion of the casing surrounding the window thus assuring a more stable and accurate sidetrack direction. The third watermelon mill serves to dregs the window in the casing after the first window mill and the second pilot mill pass through the casing.

    摘要: A geothermal wellhead repair unit including a mechanically set packer to isolate the wellhead for removal and repair thereof. The packer is run into the well string using a running tool. The packer is set by placing tension on the mandrel to set the packing elements and the slip assembly. Once the packer is set, the running tool can be disengaged without fear of collapsing the packer and the wellhead removed for repair or replacement. Upon replacement of the wellhead, the running tool can be used to unset and retrieve the packer.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for removing oil from the surface of a body of water, subtidal seafloor, a riverbed, a shoreline or a beach are disclosed. The method employs a sweeping action of oleophilic bristles comprising at least one brush to remove oil from such a surface and a suction means to remove oil from the bristles. The apparatus comprises one or more oleophilic bristled brushes connected to a support means. The brushes are positioned so that they have a lower portion in contact with the oil and an upper portion above the oil. A motor means moves the brushes so that the oil is drawn into the brushes. A suction means, such as an air conveyor system, removes the oil from the brushes.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for holding and turning a tubular and string of tubulars, such as casing, for make-up and drilling with the tubulars are disclosed. The apparatus generally includes a spear and a clamping head, both of which are mounted to a top drive. The spear and the clamping head can be engaged to transmit torque therebetween from the top drive. In addition, an aspect of the invention provides variable height wickers positioned on slips to enable use of the slips with variable inner diameter (ID) and weight casing without deformation or rupture of the casing. Still further, a casing collar is also provided to provide reinforcement to the casing in the area of slip contact with the casing ID.
