    摘要: A system and method for integrating voice and data operations into a single mobile device capable of simultaneously performing data and voice actions. The mobile device working in a network capable of exchanging both cell phone calls and data items to the mobile device. By wearing an earphone or an ear-bud device the user is capable of dealing with voice conversations while working with data centric information related to the current caller. By providing a data-centric device with voice capabilities there is a new range of features that allow incoming data events to trigger outgoing voice events.

    摘要: A unified messaging system, method and user interface is provided for a handheld mobile communication device. The method may include the following steps: (a) providing a unified event listing display comprising: a plurality of summary descriptors, each summary descriptor having one or more information elements to identify the event associated with the summary descriptor; (b) selecting one of the plurality of summary descriptors; (c) displaying a voice mail interface associated with the selected summary descriptor, wherein a plurality of voice mail actions are displayed on the interface; (d) selecting one of the plurality of voice mail actions; (e) communicating a voice mail command associated with the selected voice mail action to a unified messaging server via a wireless data communication network; (f) receiving the voice mail command at the unified messaging server; (g) executing an action associated with the received voice mail command at the unified messaging server; (h) establishing a circuit-switched communication connection to the mobile device from a PBX system associated with the unified messaging server; and (i) performing an action corresponding to the received voice mail command through the established circuit-switched communication connection.

    摘要: The present invention provides a method for padding to maximize the number of characters transmitted by data communication equipment (DCE), such as a modem, to data terminal equipment (DTE). By employing the disclosed padding method the data throughput will be maximized and costs will be reduced by transmitting packets with a greater amount of characters. The present invention further provides a method for providing access to a control channel to invoke gateway functions to send qualified information from a DTE user to a remote system. Also a method to provide security by allowing private strings and passwords saved in a modem's stored dial strings. Additionally, a method for scrolling the DTE's screen to enhance readabilty and to provide compatability with standard terminal packages available on the market. Related apparatus is also revealed.

    摘要: A hand-held electronic device with a keyboard, thumbwheel, display and associated software is optimized for use of the device with the thumbs. The associated software has a plurality of features to optimize efficient use of the limited keyboard space and encourage the use of the device by thumb-based data entry through the thumbwheel and/or through a combination of minimal number of keystrokes. Software features include international character scrolling, and auto-capitalization. The keys on the device keyboard are optimally shaped and configured for thumb-based input. In addition, the thumbwheel is inclined between the front and a side edge of the device so as to be reachable by either the thumb or index finger of the user's hand at the side edge of the device.

    摘要: A method and system for automatically triggering call redirecting in response to a mobile device detecting its connection to a host such as a personal computer, is provided. In one embodiment, the mobile device detects connection by sensing application of a charging voltage via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection, and signaling the mobile device processor of the event. In response, the mobile device processor automatically decides to which alternative endpoint communications should be forwarded, and either instructs its transmitter to transmit a forwarding command to a network operations centre or instructs the host to transmit the command through the Internet. The network operations centre switch is operable to receive a call redirecting command respecting the mobile device from either the mobile device or the host to which the mobile device is connected, and adjusting its settings to effect call redirecting for subsequent communications for the mobile device.
