    摘要: A method of forming a structure. An interposer is provided. The interposer is adapted to be interposed between a heat source and a heat sink and to transfer heat from the heat source to the heat sink. The interposer includes an enclosure that encloses a cavity. The enclosure is made of a thermally conductive material. The cavity includes a thermally conductive foam material. The foam material includes pores and includes at least one serpentine channel. Each serpentine channel has at least two contiguously connected channel segments. Each serpentine channel independently forms a closed loop or an open ended loop. The foam material is adapted to be soaked by a liquid filling the pores. Each serpentine channel is adapted to be partially filled with a fluid that serves to transfer heat from the heat source to the heat sink.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes cell wall structure and a chiral nematic liquid crystal material. The cell wall structure and the liquid crystal cooperate to form focal conic and twisted planar textures that are stable in the absence of a field. A device applies an electric field to the liquid crystal for transforming at least a portion of the material to at least one of the focal conic and twisted planar textures. The liquid crystal material has a pitch length effective to reflect radiation having a wavelength in both the visible and the infrared ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum at intensity that is sufficient for viewing by an observer. One liquid crystal material may be disposed in a single region or two or more liquid crystal materials may be used, each in separate regions even without the infrared reflecting layer. One aspect of the invention is directed to a photolithography method for patterning a substrate of the display. The display may also have multicolor capabilities by including separate layers of at least two or three liquid crystal materials that reflect visible light. A full color stacked display may be produced with grey scale capabilities.

    摘要: A method and an arrangement for the spacerless dispensing of precise amounts of liquid crystals into cells to form active liquid crystal display areas on silicon backplane or microdisplays. There is implemented a unique spacerless manufacture of miniature liquid crystal displays (LCD's), particularly at the wafer level in that, subsequent to imparting the active elements and mirrors on a silicon wafer, there is formed a completely enclosed spacer wall, preferably by photolithographic applications, along a peripheral wall region extending externally of the active display area and leaving a narrow space for a sealant externally of the spacer wall. Thereafter, an alignment layer is applied to the wafer, and a covering glass, which is of similar size and configuration, is provided in order to cover the entire active area of the wafer. Thereafter, the sealant is dispensed in the sealant region outside of the spacer wall extending about the liquid crystal areas, which may contain discrete spacer balls or posts, and thereafter lamination implemented under a vacuum, and the sealant is cured.

    摘要: A liquid crystal (LC) lightvalve comprising a twisted nematic LC layer whose molecules are aligned with pixel edges at the mirror backplane, thereby providing improved contrast and efficiency, and reduced visibility of post spacers in black state. The present invention is directed to an LC structure wherein the backplane is rubbed in a direction rectilinear with pixel edges. The LC layer is given the same twist rotation and birefringence as in the conventional TN lightvalve. Polarization control is maintained by illuminating the lightvalve with light whose polarization is rotated by the twist angle relative to the x,y, pixel axes, and by collecting the orthogonally polarized component of the reflected light. The lightvalve top glass is thus rubbed in a direction which is rotated by the twist angle from the horizontal or vertical direction at which the backplane is rubbed.
