    摘要: A garbage disposal plunger is provided that is designed to push refuse into a standard kitchen sink garbage disposal unit. The plunger apparatus includes four major sections: a knob portion, handle portion, stopper portion, and plunger portion. The knob portion is used to prevent the human hand of the user from slipping while gripping the device; the handle portion acts as a shank between the gripable knob and the plunger and, in conjunction with the knob portion, is designed to aid the human user of the device for maximum gripping capabilities and comfort. The stopper portion manifests a larger diameter which prevents the plunger portion of the device from contacting the blades of the garbage disposal, and prevents the human hand of the user from entering the garbage disposal. The plunger apparatus contains a liquid which can be dispensed through a spout which has a lid.

    摘要: A surgical instrument having opposed jaws that can be selectively moved between open and closed positions. Various embodiments include components for measuring the thickness of tissue clamped between the opposed jaws. Some embodiments are configured to ascertain the amount of compressive force that is being applied to the tissue while the thickness of the tissue is being determined. The tissue thickness data is displayed on the instrument itself and/or on a display that is remote from the instrument. The various embodiments may comprise different types of surgical instruments such as surgical staplers and graspers. A jaw arrangement with jaws shaped to define a cradle that corresponds to a cross-sectional shape of an object is also disclosed. The components that generate the thickness data may be electrically or mechanically actuated.

    摘要: An improved surgical stapler includes a stapler body having a driver and a magazine connected to the stapler body. The magazine includes a staple track for carrying a plurality of staples and an anvil associated with the staple track. The anvil has a staple forming surface for forming each of the staples thereon. A trigger is operatively connected to the driver for advancing the driver against the anvil so as to form the staple against the staple forming surface of the anvil. A feeder for feeding each of the staples from the staple track to the anvil is movably mounted in the magazine. A pinion is operatively connected to the trigger and is movably engaged with the feeder. An indexing member is movably engaged with the pinion such that the indexing member and the pinion advance the feeder and the staples toward the anvil upon an actuation of the trigger.

    摘要: Various methods and devices for deploying a sub-pericardial sack about at least a portion of a heart to alleviate congestive heart failure. A medical device housing the sub-pericardial sack is inserted into the pericardial sack. An inverted umbrella framework is deployed through the medical device and into the pericardial sack to position the sub-pericardial sack adjacent the heart. The umbrella framework is then retracted through the medical device once the cardiac assist device is placed adjacent the heart. A steerable catheter can instead be deployed through the pericardial sack to deploy and position a cardiac assist device, such as a mesh, around the heart. The steerable catheter is covered by a sheath housing the cardiac assist device. Once the sheath is pulled back, the cardiac assist device is deployed and secured adjacent the heart. Filaments or tensions wires are used to tighten the mesh around the heart.

The foldable frame assembly includes a central hub, at least four support legs spaced outwardly of the hub, and a linkage assembly hingedly connected to the central hub and to the legs. The linkage assembly is adapted to maintain the legs in a first expanded spaced array in which they are upright and generally parallel and widely spaced from the central hub and to permit movement of the legs into a second contracted compact array in which the legs are much closer to the central hub and to each other for transport. The enclosure is secured to the support legs and may include a depending skirt at the base of the enclosure.

    摘要: A sample tray carrying a two-dimensional array of sample tubes for analyses by an instrument. Tabs on the side of the tray inform the instrument as to the location of the rows of sample tubes within the tray. A short wide rack gear followed by two long thin rack gears cooperate with a pinion gear on the instrument to move the sample tray along a channel established by the instrument. The wide short rack gear serves to properly orient the tray in the instrument's channel. A C-hook at the rear of one tray can engage a T-tab at the front of a following tray to couple the two trays together. The coupling components do not extend below the upper half of the tray to assist the operator when coupling two trays together. Overhanging rack gear segments between the two coupled trays allow for their continuous propulsion by the instrument's cooperating pinion gear. The tray may take the form of a hollow shell into which fit holders providing the actual locations for the sample tubes. The holder may have a composition of plastic, cardboard, or styrofoam. Alternatively, the tray may have a nonremovable holder and operate as a solid unit.
