摘要： A process cartridge is detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The main assembly includes a motor, a gear receiving a driving force from the motor, a hole defined by twisted surfaces substantially coaxial with the gear and having a grounding contact. The cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, and a projection engageable with the twisted surfaces. The projection is provided at a longitudinal end of the drum. When the gear rotates with the hole and projection engaged with each other, a rotational driving force is transmitted from the gear to the drum through engagement between the hole and the projection. The cartridge also includes a grounding contact electrically connected with the drum, for electrically grounding the drum when the cartridge is mounted to the main assembly, and provided on the projection to be electrically connectable with the main assembly grounding contact.

摘要： A process cartridge, and a main assembly of an image forming apparatus to which the cartridge is detachably mountable. The main assembly includes a motor, a driving rotatable member for receiving a driving force from the motor, and a twisted hole substantially coaxial with the driving rotatable member. The process cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a process device actable on the drum, and a projection provided at a longitudinal end of the drum. When the driving rotatable member rotates with the hole and the projection engaged with each other, a rotational driving force is transmitted from the driving rotatable member to the drum through engagement between the hole and the projection with the projection being pulled into the hole.

The process cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive member, a developing member for developing an electrostatic latent image forming on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, a developing device frame including a first frame portion supporting the developing member and a second frame portion having a developer accommodating portion for accommodating a developer to be used for developing the electrostatic latent image by the developing member, first and second electroconductive portions disposed to be spaced from each other to detect, by the main assembly of the apparatus, a remaining amount of the developer in the process cartridge, a cartridge contact electrically connectable with the main assembly of apparatus when the process cartridge is mounted to the main assembly of the apparatus, the cartridge contact being disposed in the second frame portion, a contacting electrode electrically connected with the cartridge contact, the contacting electrode being disposed in the second frame portion, and a first electroconductive portion contact electrically connected with the first electroconductive portion, the first electroconductive portion contact being disposed in the first frame portion. The first electroconductive portion contact and the contacting electrode contact each other between spaced apart connecting portions or between an elastic seal located between the first frame portion and the second frame portion.

When a driving rotatable member in the main assembly is rotated with the projection engaged with the hole, rotational driving force is transmitted to the drum through the projection/hole engagement. The projection is drawn into the hole, and the process cartridge frame is contacted longitudinally to a regulating member in the main assembly of the apparatus to longitudinally position the drum relative to the main assembly.

The cover is spaced apart between 20-50 mm from the housing at least in the retard position. An image forming system includes mounting equipment for mounting such a process cartridge, an airflow generator for generating an airflow passing through between the housing and the cover, a transfer mechanism for transferring a developed image formed on the image bearing member onto a recording medium, and a conveying mechanism for conveying the recording medium.
