摘要:
An optical information recording apparatus, an optical information recording method, and an optical information recording medium that enable information signals to be recorded precisely by determining recording conditions such as recording power, edge positions of recording pulses, and the like suitably before recording information signals. An edge test signal generation circuit supplies a test signal for optimizing edge positions of recording pulses. In order to suppress the variation in intervals between edges due to mark distortion caused by overwriting, test recording is carried out using this test signal in a plurality of sectors on the optical information recording medium with a test recording start point being shifted at random in each sector by a recording start point shifting circuit. A system control circuit calculates an average of intervals between edges in test signals reproduced from the plurality of sectors and determines the difference between the average and an original interval between edges in the test signal, thus determining a compensation volume for edge positions.

An optical information recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing an information signal on/from both concave portions and convex portions of guide grooves formed on a recording medium is disclosed. The optical information recording and reproducing apparatus includes: an optical portion for focusing a light beam emitted from a light source on the recording medium; a focusing control portion for controlling a focal point of the light beam; a tracking control portion for controlling the position of the light beam; a selection portion for selecting which of the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves are used for recording or reproducing; a polarity inverting portion for inverting the polarity of an output signal from the tracking control portion depending on a result selected by the selection portion; a waveform setting portion for setting a modulation pattern for the light; and a signal reproduction portion for demodulating the information signal from a light reflected or transmitted by recorded marks recorded on the recording medium; wherein at least one of the focusing control portion, the tracking control portion, the waveform setting portion and the signal reproduction portion has at least two kinds of operation conditions for recording and reproducing the information signal on/from the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves, and wherein the operation conditions are selected depending on the result selected by the selection portion.

An optical information recording medium according to the present invention includes at least one groove track and at least one land track allowing information to be recorded on or reproduced from the groove track and the land track, the groove track and the land track adjoining each other. The optical information recording medium further includes: an identification signal region including a pre-pit array, the pre-pit array indicating identification information concerning the groove track and the land track; and a servo control region disposed ahead of the identification signal region along the groove track and the land track, the servo control region including wobble pits positioned so as to shift to opposite sides of a center line of either the groove track or the land track.

Both concave and convex portions formed spirally or concentrically on an optical information recording medium are used as recording tracks, in which identification signals including position information on the optical information recording medium and so on are recorded in advance, and information signals are recorded by use of the change of a local optical constant or a physical shape caused by radiating a light beam. The identification signals are disposed in recording tracks of the concave portions, and shifted before and behind in the track direction so as not to be adjacent to each other in the radial direction.

Both guide grooves and lands of an optical information recording medium constitute information tracks, the depth of the guide groove being between approximately .lambda./8 and approximately .lambda./4.7 in optical length and the width of the guide groove being between 0.34R and R, where R represents the beam diameter of a write laser beam on the record film and the power for writing information on each guide groove being differentiated from that for writing information on each land.
