    摘要: The present invention provides a TBA-mode liquid crystal display device that is capable of reflective display and transmissive display without using a multigap structure. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes a first substrate and a second substrate disposed opposite each other and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and has, in a pixel area, a reflective area where reflective display is performed and a transmissive area where transmissive display is performed. The first substrate has a first electrode and a second electrode disposed parallel to and opposite the first electrode in the pixel area, the liquid crystal layer includes a p-type nematic liquid crystal and is driven by an electric field generated between the first electrode and the second electrode, the p-type nematic liquid crystal is aligned perpendicular to the first substrate and the second substrate when no voltage is applied, a thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflective area is substantially equal to a thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the transmissive area, and a distance between the first electrode and the second electrode in the reflective area is different from a distance between the first electrode and the second electrode in the transmissive area.

    摘要: First rubbing is performed on an entire surface of an alignment film provided on a substrate, and then a mask part for masking a first region and a region of an alignment mark is formed on the alignment film by using a resist layer. After performing second rubbing on the alignment film through the mask part, the mask part is removed, and a liquid crystal layer is formed on the alignment film. In this way, the alignment mark is formed as a region having an optical function different from an optical function of a region surrounding the alignment mark. Thus, it is possible to produce a substrate having an alignment mark formed without increasing processing steps at such a position as to contact the liquid crystal layer.

    摘要: In a liquid crystal display device which presents display by forming liquid crystal domains that take radially-inclined orientation, persisting display unevenness is prevented from occurring when the panel surface is pressed, thus realizing high-quality displaying.A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a first substrate, a second substrate provided so as to oppose the first substrate, and a vertical-alignment type liquid crystal layer provided therebetween. The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention further includes wall-like structures regularly arranged on the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate, such that, when a predetermined voltage is applied, the liquid crystal layer forms at least one liquid crystal domain that takes a radially-inclined orientation state in a region substantia y surrounded by the wall-like structures. The second substrate includes a protrusion projecting toward the liquid crystal layer in a region corresponding to the liquid crystal domain, and the liquid crystal layer contains a chiral agent. The thickness dLC of the liquid crystal layer, the natural chiral pitch p of the liquid crystal layer, and the distance dRW from the center of the protrusion to the wall-like structure satisfy the relationships dRW>p and dLC/p≧0.15.

    摘要: Methods are provided for easily obtaining a high performance electrode without using an organic solvent for making an ink of an electrode catalyst or a surfactant for making an ink of a water repellent carbon material. The methods of manufacturing an electrode for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell comprise (a) a step of adhering a polymer electrolyte or a water repellent material to fine electrically conductive particles, and granulating the electrically conductive particles to obtain multinary granules, and (b) a step of depositing the multinary granules in layer form to obtain a catalyst layer or a water repellent layer of an electrode. Apparatus for manufacturing the electrodes, as well as polymer electrolyte fuel cells using the electrodes are also provided.

    摘要: A polymer electrolyte fuel cell comprises an electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly, a pair of conductive separator plates sandwiching the electrolyte membrane of the electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly, and a pair of sealing means sealing between the electrodes of the electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly and the separator plates. The pair of sealing means is constituted by combination of a flat sealing member having a flat portion in flat contact with the electrolyte membrane and of a linear sealing member having a rib in linear contact with the electrolyte membrane, and at least part of the rib is in the form of falling in the direction to the electrode when the electrolyte membrane, the pair of electrodes and the pair of separator plates are stacked to be cramped. This makes it possible for the fuel cell to have an excellent sealing property and a stable output characteristic.
