摘要:
A replaceable printer component adapted for use in a printing system includes a memory device and a communication link adapted to communicate the memory device with a printer controller for the printing system when the replaceable printer component is installed in the printing system. The memory device has an interface identifier stored therein which corresponds with a user interface for the printing system. Since the user interface presents printing capabilities of the printing system, the replaceable printer component defines which printing capabilities are available to a user of the printing system.

Alternative methods for refurbishing a single-use ink delivery container for a printing system are described. The refurbishing methods include electrical and mechanical reconfiguration or replacement of original elements on the ink delivery container. Each method utilizes an existing ink fluid outlet, electrical connector and an information storage device on the ink delivery container.

Disclosed is a fluidic coupling that releasably and fluidically connects to the inlet port of an inkjet print cartridge. The fluidic coupling acts as a seal for the print cartridge and a means of lubricating and protecting the inlet port from drying, leaking ink, and air ingestion while the print cartridge is in transit and in storage. The fluidic coupling also provides an auxiliary ink reservoir for the print cartridge. The fluidic coupling further provides an ink conduit to the printhead from an external ink supply. First first and second end portions define an internal chamber, the internal chamber providing an internal fluid conduit for ink between the first and second ends of the body; and a fluidic coupling affixed to the first end of the body and in fluidic communication with the internal chamber. Optionally, there is a second fluidic coupling affixed to the second end of the body adapted to releasably seal to an outlet port of an ink supply to allow fluid communication between internal fluid conduit and the outlet port of the ink supply so as to allow ink flow from the ink supply through the second fluidic coupling, and into the internal fluid conduit.

Described is an ink delivery system for an inkjet printing system including a housing; a printhead fixed to the housing for ejecting droplets of ink on media; a regulator located within the housing; a source of ink for replenishing the printhead; and an ink passageway for connecting the source of ink and the valve inlet. The regulator including a valve having an inlet and outlet, with the outlet in fluid communication with the printhead; a flexible member within the print cartridge, the flexible member has a reference surface and an ink surface, the reference surface is in communication with an outside atmosphere, the ink surface is in fluid communication with the printhead, the difference in pressure between the outside atmosphere and the printhead causes the flexible member to bias toward the ink surface; and an actuator that is receives a force from the ink surface of the flexible member, the actuator actuates the valve based upon the differential pressure between the reference surface and the outside atmosphere. Also described is a fluidic coupling that releasably and fluidically connects to the inlet port of a print cartridge.
摘要:
It has been discovered that inkjet printhead lifetime is related to an amount of accumulated air within the inkjet printhead. The invention, therefore, comprises a method of: determining an amount of ink that is output by an inkjet printhead during a determined period; using the amount of ink so determined to derive an update air accumulation value that is indicative of an amount of air which has accumulated during the determined period within the inkjet printhead; and updating a stored air accumulation parameter in accord with the air accumulation update value. The stored air accumulation parameter is thus related to a projected remaining lifetime of the inkjet printhead. A preferred embodiment stores the air accumulation parameter directly on a memory that is integral with the inkjet printhead. The parameter can further be stored on a memory that is resident on an ink container employed in the inkjet printer.

A variety of adaptive ink delivery systems for an existing ink-jet printing system are usable in lieu of an original equipment ink cartridge. Each adaptive ink delivery system has an ink reservoir in communication with a fluid outlet configured to couple with the fluid inlet on the printing system. Each ink delivery system also has an electrical adapter connector which mates with an electrical connector on the printing system. Each ink delivery system has an information storage device to exchange enabling information with a controller of the printing system. The information storage device may be an emulation circuit that provides enabling information to the printing system regardless of the actual condition of the ink reservoir. The adaptive supplies allow the information storage device and/or the replacement ink reservoir to be located on or optionally remotely from the printing system.

An inkjet printing system includes a replaceable printhead having plural nozzles for ejecting ink droplets, a service station for capping and wiping the plural nozzles, and a replaceable ink cartridge housing a supply of ink and further including a cartridge memory for recording service station-control data. A processor is coupled to the ink cartridge memory and is responsive to service station-control data read from the cartridge memory to derive a service station control value. The printhead further includes a memory which records printhead-related parameters, and the processor is responsive thereto and service station-control data read from said cartridge memory to control the service station. The control data may be service station parameters, one or more subroutines to control the service station and combinations thereof.

A modified syringe for recharging an ink supply in a print cartridge is described. In the preferred embodiment, the end of a syringe valve is inserted into the end of a print cartridge valve to create both a mechanical coupling and a fluid tight coupling between the two valves. A further insertion causes both valves to become open, thus creating an airtight fluid path between the syringe chamber and the depleted print cartridge reservoir. A negative pressure within the print cartridge ink bag draws the ink from the syringe chamber into the ink bag until the ink bag is substantially full and the pressure in the ink bag is at or near atmospheric pressure. An air intake port is provided on the syringe to fill the void left by the ink in the syringe chamber. Once the print cartridge has been recharged, a plunger in the syringe is manually pulled back a predetermined distance to draw an amount of ink out of the print cartridge to create the desired negative pressure in the print cartridge. The syringe is then removed from the print cartridge, automatically pulling the two valves closed.

Described is a printing system including a first array of ink ejection elements formed on a first substrate surface for ejecting droplets of a first ink, a second array of ink ejection elements formed on a second substrate surface for ejecting droplets of a second ink, a memory element associated with the first and second arrays of ink ejection elements contains parameters that relate droplet ejection characteristics of the first and second array of ink ejection elements. The droplet ejection characteristics may contain ink ejection alignment data that enables the calculation of the relative alignment between the first and second arrays of ink ejection elements such that droplets of the first ink can be effectively aligned with droplets of the second ink. Also, ink droplet volume data enables the calculation of the relative drop volume between the first and second arrays of ink ejection elements such that the printing system can provide hue control.
