An ink jet head, having a long life, capable of discharging ink with a strong force and at a high speed is provided at a small size. A container comprises a casing and a nozzle plate covering the upper surface of the casing and an ink discharge opening. A buckling structure is fixed at its longitudinal ends to the bottom surface of the container via an installing member, and its center portion can be deformed upward by buckling. A diaphragm is positioned above the buckling structure with a space therebetween and placed on an inner wall of the casing with its periphery fixed thereto so as to liquid-tightly partition the inside of the container into a space and an ink chamber. A connection member connects the diaphragm and the buckling structure at their center. Electrodes are provided at both ends of the buckling structure to generate thermal stress therein by supplying electric current for buckling and consequently to apply pressure to ink in the ink chamber for discharging.

A pressure generating member applies a pressure to an ink, the member having a symmetric configuration and including a buckling body. The buckling body may include a radially extending ribbed portion on its upper surface and no buckling layer beneath it. A heater layer is interposed between insulating layers for heating the buckling body, the buckling body having its peripheral edge portion fixed on a substrate. A center portion of the buckling body is buckled by being heated. An orifice plate is arranged so as to cover the pressure generating member with interposition of a gap defining a cavity for the ink. The orifice plate is provided with a nozzle serving as an ink discharge outlet located in a portion of the orifice plate opposite to the pressure generating member.

An ink jet of the present invention includes a nozzle plate having a nozzle orifice, a substrate having an opening communicating with the nozzle orifice, an ink discharge plate having a center portion positioned in the nozzle orifice of the nozzle plate and the opening, and both ends supported by being sandwiched between the nozzle plate and the substrate, the center portion being closer to the nozzle plate than the both ends, and a compressive member for applying a compressive force in the axis direction of the ink jet plate so that the center portion of the ink discharge plate is deformed towards the nozzle orifice by buckling. Because of this structure, the ink discharge plate is always buckled towards the nozzle orifice, and forms an ink droplet without erroneous operation.

A transparent substrate of an optical memory is produced by injection molding using a stamper. Grooves and lands are alternately arranged on the optical memory, for tracking of light converged on the optical memory. The groove width is set in the range of 0.3 .mu.m to 0.4 .mu.m and the groove depth is set in the rage of 80 nm to 100 nm. A decrease in the width of a land at each edge is restrained to 0.2 .mu.m in maximum. With such dimensions, even when the track pitch is set to about 1.4 .mu.m, it is possible to obtain a track crossing signal with intensity sufficient for performing an access operation to a target track. Moreover, since the dimensions bring about an improved reflectance at a land, the optical memory achieves an improved C/N and recording density.

An ink jet head has an ink head main body that is constituted of a substrate, spacers that are formed on one side of the substrate, and a roof plate that is joined to the substrate through the spacers. One or more ink passages are independently formed between the substrate and the roof plate. Rows of piezoelectric devices, each of which is made of a plurality of piezoelectric devices aligned along each ink passage, are formed through the respective ink passages. Ac voltages whose phases are different from each other by 90 degrees are applied to the respective piezoelectric devices. Progressive waves, which are excited by the rows of piezoelectric devices, allow ink to move through the ink passage and to be sprayed.

An optical disk including concentric or spiral grooves, a first series of pits formed in the interrupted portions, and a second series of pits formed in portions of lands. Both of the first and second series of pits represent address information. The portions of the lands and the interrupted portions of the grooves are located in different radial directions. With this arrangement, even when the optical disk has a reduced track pitch, accurate address information is obtained, achieving a high-density recording optical disk.

A method of manufacturing a photomask for an optical memory, the photomask having two types of pattern where guide tracks and formatting pits are different in amount of optical transmissions, including the steps of (a) forming on a transparent substrate a thin film of which light transmission amount depends upon its thickness; (b) forming a photoresist film on the thin film; (c) exposing the photoresist film to light with different light intensities depending selectively on the guide tracks or formatting pits; (d) eliminating the photoresist film exposed to the more intense light by the development till the thin film becomes surface; (e) etching the thin film exposed to the more intense light and surfaced; (f) eliminating the photoresist film till the thin film exposed to the less intense light becomes surface; (g) etching away the thin film exposed to the more intense light and surfaced till the transparent substrate becomes surface; and (h) eliminating the remnant photoresist.

An optical recording element comprising a recording medium which includes an information recording area formed at every unit in a non-continuous condition, the recording medium further including sample pits disposed at intervals of a fixed distance for providing basic information about the locations of recording units in the same track. Each sample pit comprises a plurality of pits disposed next to the sequence of the recording units so that the spacing between the pits differs from the spacing between the recording units. At least one of the plurality of pits is a long-sized inclined pit which is inclined at an angle in the range of 6.degree. to 80.degree. to a recording track. A driving system for driving the optical recording element for recording information in the non-continuous recording area or erasing information stored therein with a light beam the output of which is varied as required and checking whether said recording or erasing has been correctly performed, within a very short time in which the light beam passes through the non-continuous recording area. By using the optical recording element in combination with its driving system, the processing speed for reducing, erasing and verifying these functions can be greatly improved and the irradiating position of the light beam at every recording unit can be correctly controlled.

Concentric guide grooves are formed on a glass substrate, and recording medium is disposed on the glass substrate having the concentric grooves. A centering device is secured to the glass substrate in a manner that the center of the centering device is positioned at the center of the concentric guide grooves. In a preferred form, photopolymer is disposed between the centering device and the glass substrate as adhesive. The centering device is provided with an aperture through which ultraviolet rays are applyed to the photo-polymer to cure it.
