摘要: A distance measuring instrument is provided for simple fieldwise mapping of an area. The instrument comprises an electronic distance meter, a unit for determining a vertical angle for aligning the instrument with a measuring point, and a unit for obtaining a horizontal angle for the alignment of the instrument with a measuring point. The horizontal angle unit comprises a terrestrial magnetic-field detector which comprises at least two detector units fixedly mounted in the instrument. The units are directed in mutually different directions so that at least two components of the magnetic flux in an instrument-based coordinate system are obtained by the units. A calculating unit is arranged to convert the coordinates of the components of the terrestrial magnetic field from the instrument-based coordinate system to an earth-based coordinate system. The vertical angle obtained from the vertical angle unit is used for this conversion. The calculating unit is arranged to calculate the direction of the terrestrial magnetic field in a horizontal plane and determine the horizontal angle relative to a reference direction.

摘要: A readily fabricated, high efficient modular solar energy collector that may be arranged in a wide variety of arrays comprises a relatively small, typically but not necessarily rectangular, panel structure that is centrally coupled to an insulative support that may define an outlet conduit. In a specific example, a pair of coextensive, thermally conductive panels, the outer one of which preferably has a light absorptive black upper surface of low emissivity, defines flow paths directed laterally inwardly from side margins of the panel to a central mid-line region at which outlet apertures flow into a manifold region under the panel. The heated fluid in the manifold communicates with an outlet conduit within the support that is connectable at its respective ends to like conduits of adjacent modules. The centrally supported panels are sufficiently rigid to need no additional support, and freely expand and contract in response to temperature changes. An array of modules of this character may be mounted adjacent a single transparent cover of larger size, and for low ambient temperature regions may include an individual transparent cover for each module. The construction further permits swiveling of individual lines of modules so as to assume optimum angles to incident radiation. Despite the relatively small module size, high temperature differentials are achieved with high efficiency, and great flexibility is permitted in the arrangement of an array, which also can have good aesthetic appearance. All modules may be arranged to communicate with a heat exchanger system, such as an air-to-water heat exchanger.

摘要: This invention relates to apparatus for removing nitrogen from air. A compressor forces the air into a bed which is capable of adsorbing nitrogen from the air and also removes gas from the bed by suction. The cylinder of the compressor communicates directly with the bed through a pipe which permits gas to flow freely in both directions and the bed communicates with the chamber for collecting the gaseous mixture from which the nitrogen has been removed. That chamber is connected to an outlet pump via a first controllable outlet valve while the end of the cylinder which is in direct communication with the bed is provided with a second controllable outlet valve. The nitrogen free mixture passes out through the first controllable outlet valve and the nitrogen passes out through the second outlet valve.

摘要: An electromechanical transducer for converting mechanical analog angular information to electrical linear information, utilizing a primary winding and a first and second secondary winding, said secondary windings being arranged perpendicular to each other and rotatable in relationship to the primary winding. The primary winding is connected to the output of an amplifier. The amplifier is inductively fed back by means of the primary winding and one of the secondary windings. The input voltage of the amplifier is related to the voltage across the other secondary winding and privides a linear measure for the rotation of the secondary windings in relationship to the primary winding.

摘要: Two systems are disclosed in which a pointer is directed towards a moving target over a predetermined time interval. Angular information is derived from the pointer during this time interval to generate signals indicative of the distance of the object from the pointer. During a second time interval, the pointer is automatically directed towards the moving object by use of the information derived during the first time interval.

摘要: A device for ventilating a patient by means of a lung ventilator which comprises a gas source and a controlled valve arrangement for intermittent feeding of breathing gas from the gas source. A connecting piece is mounted on an endotracheal tube or a tracheal cannula inserted into the trachea of the patient. Said piece comprises a substantially straight main tube and a branch tube and the junction between these tubes is so designed that it has a pneumatic valve function, whereby essentially the entire quantity of the breathing gas supplied from the lung ventilator to the branch tube is conducted towards said one end of the main tube, whereas gas flow, uneffected by breathing gas that may be blown into the branch tube, is allowed in both directions through the main tube past the orifice of the branch tube into the main tube.

摘要: A measuring device is disclosed which can measure an angle or length and which employs either an angle or length measuring plate. The angle or length measuring plate has thereon at least one measuring scale which has a regular pattern along the majority of the lengths thereof and an irregular pattern on two portions thereof. A light beam shines through an optical system to pass through the measuring scale at two points and from there into a photo-detector. The light path is arranged to pass through the two irregular portions at the same time. Several embodiments of the irregular patterns are shown. A circuit is also shown to detect the irregular portions and employ it as a reference signal.

摘要: The invention concerns a method for laser cutting metal workpieces which contain bound oxygen by using a mixture of ay least one inert gas and hydrogen as the cutting gas. The hydrogen protein of the cutting gas prevents oxygen which is from the metal during the cutting process from causing undesired oxidation in the region of the cutting point. The formation of burrs and furrows is thus prevented.

摘要: A coupling device for releasable and sealing connection to a tubular, externally threaded connector part. The device includes internally threaded segments which can swing radially to enable the coupling device to be connected to and released from the connector part. An axially movable sleeve is mounted concentrically around the segments and can be moved over the segments between a forward position in which the sleeve brings the threaded segments into meshing engagement with the threads of the connector part, and a rear position in which the segments are able to swing out so as to release the engagement. The segments and the sleeve also include mutually coacting means which, when in engagement with one another, limit the possibility of relative rotational movement in one direction between the segments and the sleeve.

摘要: A method for recovering non-ferrous metal from a dross that includes the non-ferrous metal includes introducing the dross into a rotary furnace or rotatable converter. The furnace or converter has a refractory lining. Oxygen and a fossil fuel are supplied to an oxy-fuel burner. The oxygen is supplied as a combustion gas including at least eighty percent oxygen. The oxygen and fossil fuel are combusted to generate an initial combustion energy. The dross is heated to a temperature above a melting point of the non-ferrous metal by supplying the initial combustion energy to the furnace or converter. The heating takes place in the absence of a protective salt layer. The non-ferrous metal and a non-metallic residue are recovered from the furnace or converter.
