Abstract: A system includes a robotic arm, a rotisserie control linkage, and a computer system. The robotic arm includes a touch probe and laser head. The rotisserie control linkage is configured to couple to a transport cart. The computer system is communicatively coupled to the robotic arm and the rotisserie control linkage and is configured to control the system to probe, using the touch probe of the robotic arm, a transparent outer layer of an aircraft canopy located on the transport cart in order to determine surface measurements of the aircraft canopy. The computer system also controls the system to ablate, using a plurality of predetermined parameters and the laser head of the robotic arm, an interface layer located between the transparent outer layer and the aircraft canopy, wherein movements of the robotic arm during the ablation are based on the surface measurements.

Abstract: An apparatus for additive printing is provided. The apparatus includes a print head, an optical-mechanical assembly, and a rejected energy handling device. The print head includes an energy source and one or more energy patterning devices configured to provide one or more two-dimensional patterned incident beams to process a powdered material. The optical-mechanical assembly includes optical components arranged to receive and direct the one or more incident beams into a location. The rejected energy handling device is configured to reuse beam energy rejected by the one or more energy patterning devices by relaying the rejected beam energy to either or both of an electricity generator and a thermal management system.

Abstract: A laser marking apparatus includes a head marking the identifier on a mold, a light-shielding case, a light-shielding gate provided at either a carrying-in port or a carrying-out port of the light-shielding case, and a control unit controlling operation of the head and operation of the light-shielding gate, and the control unit closes the light-shielding gate and causes the head to start a marking operation on the mold in response to carrying-in of the mold into the operation space and opens the light-shielding gate in response to the marking operation ending.

Abstract: A method of additive manufacture suitable for large and high resolution structures is disclosed. The method may include sequentially advancing each portion of a continuous part in the longitudinal direction from a first zone to a second zone. In the first zone, selected granules of a granular material may be amalgamated. In the second zone, unamalgamated granules of the granular material may be removed. The method may further include advancing a first portion of the continuous part from the second zone to a third zone while (1) a last portion of the continuous part is formed within the first zone and (2) the first portion is maintained in the same position in the lateral and transverse directions that the first portion occupied within the first zone and the second zone.

Abstract: A laser machine includes a housing, a machining table, a gate, a machining head, a loading/unloading door, an exhaust port, an outside air intake port, and a deflector. The housing includes a first face and a second face orthogonal to a first direction, a third face and a fourth face orthogonal to a second direction, and a fifth face orthogonal to a third direction and facing the floor surface. The exhaust port is provided on the second face and connected to an exhaust unit that generates an airflow that is a flow of air inside the housing. The outside air intake port is provided in an upper part of the housing between the first face and the machining head in the first direction, and takes in outside air. The deflector guides the outside air introduced through the outside air intake port toward the machining head.

Abstract: A laser welding apparatus capable of eliminating or reducing a possibility that a part of air flows upward and hence fumes adhere to its protective optical member is provided. A laser welding apparatus according to the present disclosure includes a protective optical member disposed between a laser scanner and a workpiece, an upper-side gas supply unit, and a lower-side gas supply unit disposed below the upper-side gas supply unit. The protective optical member includes a plate-like part and a cylindrical part extending downward from an outer edge of the plate-like part. The upper-side gas supply unit is disposed below the plate-like part of the protective optical member. The upper-side gas supply unit includes a plurality of first ejection ports configured to eject gas to a center of the plate-like part, and a plurality of second ejection ports configured to eject gas downward with respect to the plate-like part.

Abstract: A method for laser scoring a film comprising at least 90% polyolefin comprises scoring a moving web of the film by utilizing the peak pulse power of a laser at a frequency of about 20 kHz or less to create a scored film with a score feature comprising a series of non-overlapping scored spots. In another aspect, a laser scored film comprises at least 90% polyolefin; and a score feature comprising a series of laser-formed non-overlapping scored spots on the film having a cut size of between 0.15 mm and less than 0.5 mm, and a tie length between 0.15 mm and less than 0.5 mm.
