    摘要: A method and apparatus provides for the generation of a number of elliptical images on a raster scan video display screen by storing information indicative of a predetermined model image, and for each elliptical image to be displayed, storing data indicative of the vertical and horizontal eccentricity of each image, and its display location. During display time, the vertical eccentricity, horizontal eccentricity, and display location binary information for each elliptical is accessed and used to sequentially read selected portions of the model image information to produce therefrom address signals indicative of the location of individual horizontal display elements that make up the desired elliptical image. The address signals are applied to a random access memory to store marker information indicative of the elliptical image at memory locations corresponding to the position on the display screen that the image will take. The random access memory is sequentially scanned in synchronism with the scan of the electron beam used to form the raster, converted to video information and displayed.

    摘要: Apparatus for use in shooting an imaginary ball of an electronic pinball game which has score display means comprising a shaft or plunger which shifts longitudinally in a forward direction after being pulled rearwardly and released. Detecting means adjacent to the longitudinal path of travel generates electronic signals as a function of the movement of the shaft and the signals are used as a measure of the speed and direction of the shaft, and the signals are applied to circuitry which operates scoring and other devices controlling the display means. In one embodiment, the detecting means comprises a pair of Hall effect detectors which are longitudinally spaced apart and are actuated by magnets carried by the shaft. In a second embodiment, the detecting means includes a pair of spaced photocells, respective light sources for the photocells, and an opaque tab carried by the shaft for movement between each photocell and its light source. The time interval between the actuation of the first photocell and the actuation of the second photocell is a measure of the speed of the shaft and is proportional to the force exerted by the shaft on the imaginary ball. The circuitry which operates the scoring and other electronic devices associated with the display means can then provide the output to the display means in accordance with the magnitude of the generated signals.

    摘要: The present invention provides a spinning target which is accurately responsive to the force of impact of a pinball on the target. A generally flat target element is suspended above the playfield so that it is rotatable about an axis parallel to the playfield and sufficiently above the field so that the pinball can pass below when the target element is in a horizontal configuration. The target element has a principal axis of inertia generally coincident with the axis of rotation of the target element. The target element is biased so that it is maintained in a vertical configuration until impacted by the pinball. A pair of weights which have a mass density relatively greater than the mass density of the target element are embedded in the target element in its respective extremities. The weights are symmetrically disposed relative to and remote from the principal axis of the target element. The target element together with the weights has a relatively high moment of inertia to sustain rotation of the target element proportionate to the force of impact of the pinball on the target element. The number of revolutions of the target element are tabulated to provide a score which is proportional to the force of impact of the pinball on the target.
