摘要： The present invention relates to an improved insulating sheet material and to cigarettes and other smoking articles which employ the insulating sheet material as one or more components thereof. The improved insulating material is particularly useful in smoking articles having a fuel element and a physically separate aerosol generating means, e.g. as an insulating member for insulating the fuel element. In general, the sheet material of the present invention is formable without the use of any organic binder and comprises an inorganic fibrous material such as calcium sulfate fibers, calcium sodium phosphate fibers, or mixtures thereof, and a relatively small amount of highly refined cellulose-based fibers such as wood pulp.

摘要： A cigarette includes a charge or roll of smokable material (e.g., tobacco cut filler) circumscribed by two layers of paper wrapping materials. The first or inner wrapping material includes an inorganic filler material and tobacco material within the web. The inner wrapping material also can include a water soluble salt burn chemical and a carbonaceous material within the web. The second or outer wrapping material circumscribes and overwraps the first wrapping material, has a cellulosic base web and inorganic filler material, and exhibits a low inherent air permeability. The outer wrapping material can include a magnesium hydroxide filler, and exhibits an inherent air permeability of below about 15 CORESTA units and a net air permeability above about 40 CORESTA units. The cigarette is capable of sustaining smolder under FTC smoking conditions while yielding very low levels of visible sidestream smoke. The cigarette includes a filter element having 2 or more longitudinally positioned segments, and one of the segments includes a carbonaceous material.

摘要： A cigarette including a longitudinally segmented combustible fuel element, and a substrate carrying tobacco extract and glycerin positioned physically separate from the fuel element is disclosed. The substrate is a gathered paper-type material, and is positioned in a spaced apart relationship from the fuel element. One preferred smoking article of the present invention is a cigarette which comprises (i) a symmetrical and longitudinally segmented combustible fuel element; (ii) a physically separate aerosol generating means including at least one aerosol forming material; and (iii) means for securing, maintaining or retaining the fuel element within the smoking article. The symmetrical fuel element of the present invention comprises two substantially identical end segments; a longitudinally disposed intermediate segment; and two, preferably identical, reduced cross-sectional area (or reduced circumference) segments (also called "isolation" segments) located between each of the end segments and the intermediate segment. The symmetrical nature of the fuel element allows it to be inserted into the cigarette without concern as to any particular longitudinal orientation. Thus, when placed in a cigarette, one end segment of the fuel element serves as a burning segment, while the other end segment serves as a base segment.

摘要： Tobacco material is extracted with an extraction solvent to provide a aqueous extract and a tobacco portion insoluble in the solvent. The extract is separated from the insoluble portion and is provided within the water at a concentration at least about 30 percent, based on the weight of the extract and solvent. The extract and solvent are subjected to temperature treatment including reducing the temperature of the extract and solvent from a first temperature to a second temperature. Potassium nitrate crystals form as a precipitate and are separated from the extract and solvent. Then, the extract and solvent are contacted with activated carbon particles and separated therefrom.

摘要： An intelligent computer integrated maintenance system and method includes an electronically stored parts manual which contains a hierarchical listing of all parts in production machines, and a maintenance operations computer controller which includes a maintenance schedule management subsystem, an engineering change control subsystem, a parts manual management subsystem and a spares inventory management subsystem. The maintenance schedule management subsystem obtains a schedule of actual and planned production, and groups maintenance activities in order to minimize lost production time. The engineering change control subsystem integrates engineering change activities with maintenance activities to maximize production time. The automated parts manual is also updated to account for engineering changes. The spare parts inventory management subsystem orders spare parts based on predicted maintenance rather than on prescribed inventory levels. Production efficiency is thereby maximized, as is the use of available maintenance manpower. Engineering changes are easily accommodated and spare parts inventory is kept to a minimum.
