    Abstract: A garage door operator includes a head unit held by a supporting structure remote from the garage door. A rail has a first end held by a supporting structure adjacent the door and a second end fixed adjacent to and in alignment with a toothed drive wheel carried by the head unit. The garage door operator further includes an endless drive belt assembly trained about the drive wheel and a pulley held by the rail adjacent the garage door. The belt assembly includes a length of a plastic belt having teeth on one surface thereof matching the teeth on the drive wheel. The belt assembly further includes a trolley for connection to the garage door and a connector for joining one end of the plastic belt to one end of the trolley. The plastic belt has a lower surface to which the belt teeth extend, and the drive wheel has an upper surface to which the wheel teeth extend. Thus, the belt assembly can be installed by moving the plastic belt lower surface over the drive wheel upper surface until the respective sets of teeth are aligned, and moving the belt downwardly to train it about the drive wheel.

A second potentiometer is provided having its wiper arm coupled to a movable member whose position corresponds to the position of the door. The potentiometers are connected as voltage dividers and the voltages provided at their wiper arms are utilized for controlling the movement of the door.

    Abstract: A door opener system which includes a compact unit containing a motor, circuitry and various accessories, which can be quickly connected to and disconnected from the operator system, said motor having a first gear which easily is positioned into a meshing relationship with a second gear upon connection of the compact unit to the operator system. The operator system further includes the use of only two common switch actuators for operating the motor to move the door in open and closed positions, and to stop the motor upon the door striking an obstruction in its path of travel, said actuators being cooperatively associated with a cam actuator and drive chain pressure responsive means. Also, a unitary gear and drive sprocket structure is utilized in the drive system. Finally, an adjustable shock absorber type draw bar interconnects the door to the chain drive.

    Abstract: An overhead control for raising and lowering garage doors and other cyclically operated devices which utilizes a unidirectional electric motor which drives an endless chain in only one direction. A follower rides on a rail and is coupled to the endless chain by a gear which engages the chain on one side so as to move the follower in a first direction. When the follower reaches the end of the rail, the gear of the follower rotates 180* so as to engage the opposite side of the chain and thus move the follower in the opposite direction. The tension may be adjusted so that a door will stop or reverse when it meets resistance sufficiently firm to shift the gear of the follower.
