摘要: An information processing methodology gives rise to an application program interface which includes an automated digitizing unit, such as a scanner, which inputs information from a diversity of hard copy documents and stores information from the hard copy documents into a memory as stored document information. Portions of the stored document information are selected in accordance with content instructions which designate portions of the stored document information required by a particular application program. The selected stored document information is then placed into the transmission format required by a particular application program in accordance with transmission format instructions. After the information has been transmission formatted, the information is transmitted to the application program. In one operational mode, the interface interactively prompts the user to identify, on a display, portions of the hard copy documents containing information used in application programs or for storage.

摘要: A system, method and computer program product for managing documents. The system includes an image forming apparatus configured to display interactive menus so as to allow an operator of the image forming apparatus to interact with a document manager. The display interactive menus are downloaded from the document manager to the image forming apparatus based on a request by the operator. The document manager is configured to search for application services providers (ASPs) over a network and based on operator inputs. The document manager can search documents within the ASPs, retrieve documents and URLs, store documents and data. The system can provide basic and/or customized interactive menus displayed on the screen of the image forming apparatus.

摘要: A system and method for the assembly of multiple format digital files. A user is prompted to select an original file for further processing, whereupon the file is converted, when required, into a digital format. The user then selects the desired output formats corresponding to the files received in the file processing request associated with the original input file. When processing of each output is the same, the outputs are first converted into the desired output format and the user selects one or more basic operations or previously stored tasks to be performed in the processing of the output sets to form a new task. When each output requires different processing, the outputs are first converted into the desired output format and the user selects one or more basic operations or tasks for each output set to form multiple new tasks. The selected operations or tasks are then executed by the digital multifunction device and the newly generated task or tasks are stored for further use.

摘要: In accordance with the present invention, a method and a system for increasing scanning speed are provided. The method comprises steps of determining a transmission rate of a transit interface, scanning an original to generate an image data, and adjusting a cycle time of the image data to change a data generated rate responsive to the transmission rate of the transit interface. The key aspect of the present invention is by adjusting the cycle time of a state machine to change the data generated rate corresponding to the transmission rate of the transit interface. Therefore, in response to the transmission rate of the transit interface, the cycle time of the state machine is adjusted to produce the data at a rate that prevents the smearing process. Thus, incorporated with the present invention, the possibility of memory buffer full is reduced leading to the reduction in the time wasting on start-stop processes and therefore the overall scanning speed is increased without requiring the increase in size of a memory buffer.

摘要: A server enables a user at a station to scan a document. The station has a computer connected to the network, a browser installed on the computer to enable the user to browse the network, and a scanner in communication with the computer. The server has a database of scanner drivers, a driver selection system that enables the user to select a driver for the scanner from the database of scanner drivers, and a delivery system that transfers a selected driver to the computer and causes the computer to execute the driver. The user uses the browser and the driver selection system to select a driver for the scanner. The delivery system then sends the driver to the computer, and the computer executes the driver. The driver uses the scanner to scan a document, and scanning data corresponding to the document is saved in a predetermined location.

摘要: Method for efficient printing of large-volume documents to multiple printers, comprising GUI for administrators to configure a virtual port associated with physical and virtual printers; print job to a virtual printer spooled to the associated virtual port; and administrators sending spooled print job to the associated physical printers. Options include Spool without printing, Spool and print immediately, and Spool and print at a scheduled time. Printing policies include Tandem (the same copies to printers), Direct (to one printer), Broadcast (specified copies to printers), and Cluster (a print job is divided into pieces at page boundaries). Cluster dividing subpolicies match color, paper size, media type, and finishing characteristics of the pieces with the printer characteristics, and sending subpolicies optimize based on printer speeds and distribute equal number of pages. Bidirectional communication and monitoring using SNMP and PJL enable Pool (the first available printer) and Recovery (job transfer after a failure) printing policies. Methods also include job previewing and accounting.
