Embodiment of systems and methods for the sending, delivery or receiving of faxes are disclosed herein. In particular, certain embodiments include a fax connector that may be deployed at users' sites, and a fax registration system that may be deployed remotely from these users' site. The fax connector can be accessed at a user's site over a computer based network in order to perform functions associated with faxing, including sending, receiving and obtaining status on faxes. The fax connector deployed at a sending user's site communicates with the fax registration system to obtain destination data associated with a recipient user's fax connector and transmits the fax to the destination fax connector over the computer based network based on the destination data obtained from the registration system. The fax can then be presented to the recipient at the recipient user's site.

An information processing apparatus includes a switching unit and a controller. The information processing apparatus performs a data sending and receiving operation with an external apparatus via a data line which is compliant with a predetermined standard. The switching unit switches the information processing apparatus to a host device or a non-host device in accordance with a state of the information processing apparatus. The controller controls a data sending and receiving operation performed with the external apparatus. The controller controls a data sending and receiving operation for a host device when the information processing apparatus is switched to the host device. The controller controls a data sending and receiving operation for a non-host device when the information processing apparatus is switched to the non-host device.

The present invention provides a technique that simplifies operations for making appropriate print settings. Accordingly, a terminal apparatus serving as an information processing apparatus according to the present invention acquires, from a printing apparatus, information indicating the sheet type and size of the sheets set in each paper feed tray. Then, the terminal apparatus determines whether the acquired information includes a sheet type that matches a sheet type suitable for an attribute of information selected by a user as a print target. If it is determined that the information includes a sheet type that matches the suitable sheet type, the terminal apparatus generates print data including information designating a paper feed tray containing sheets of the matching sheet type, and transmits the generated print data to the printing apparatus.

A processing system includes a terminal held by a user and a processing apparatus that executes a process designated by the user. The terminal includes a memory that stores screen information for configuring a setting screen for the process. The screen information is set by the user. The processing apparatus includes an acquisition unit and a receiving unit. The acquisition unit acquires the screen information from the terminal through short-distance wireless communication. The receiving unit displays the setting screen in accordance with the acquired screen information and receives a setting change performed by the user on the setting screen.
