摘要: A method for optically recording information on an optically re-writable information medium is described. A mark is formed on a recording medium by radiating a laser light having the strength of the short recording pulse signal followed by the off-pulse signal. The recording film is heated to form the mark and the mark is extended by thermal diffusion while the off-pulse signal is provided. Therefore, the length of the recorded mark ML is longer than the recording pulse width at a predetermined linear velocity. The erasing pulse signal follows the off-pulse signal and the extended recorded mark is erased by the erasing pulse signal. The recording method according to the present invention can form a mark on the recording medium by radiating the laser light having a shorter recording pulse width than a recording pulse width used in the conventional method to form a mark having the same length. Therefore, heat quantity applied to the medium by the recording method according to the present invention is smaller than that of the conventional method. As a result, expansion of the mark in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the track is reduced compared to conventional methods.

摘要: An image forming apparatus includes at least one image forming mechanism configured to form an image based on image data. Each image forming mechanism includes an optical system, a sensor, an electronic circuit, and a controller. The optical system scans a photosensitive member with a light beam based on image data. The sensor detects the light beam and the electronic circuit stores a correction data table containing light amount data of the light source and corresponding start position shift amount data. The controller controls a light amount of the light source and adjusts a start position of image recording on the photosensitive member in accordance with a sync detect signal. The controller includes a write start position correction unit that adjust the start position of the image recording based on a start position shift amount data when the light amount varies.

摘要: An image forming apparatus includes a modulation data storage, a pulse width modulator, and an optical writing mechanism. The modulation data storage stores different gray-scale pulse sets. Each set includes gray-scale pulses having pulse widths different from each other in steps of a predetermined value corresponding to gray-scale information possibly contained in image data to be input. Each gray-scale pulse includes at least two pulses including at least one of left-positioned and right-positioned pulses. The pulse width modulator selects a gray-scale pulse set from among the different gray-scale sets in accordance with gray-scale information and performs a pulse width modulation to control a light beam on and off at a density twice or more than twice a density of the input image data by using the gray-scale pulse set selected. The optical writing mechanism causes the light beam to scan a photosensitive member to form a latent image thereon.

摘要: A visible light characteristic changing layer formed from photosensitive or heat-sensitive material is formed in a location which can be viewed from a part of a label surface of an optical disk. The optical disk is set on a turntable of an optical disk unit while the label surface of the optical disk is directed downward. The optical disk and an optical pickup are moved mutually along the plane of the optical disk. In synchronism with the relative movement, the power of a laser beam output from the optical pickup is modulated in accordance with image data, such as characters or graphic images to be printed, and the laser beam is emitted onto the visible light characteristic changing layer. As a result of the visible light characteristic changing layer being exposed to the laser beam, a visible-light reflectivity of the visible light characteristic changing layer is changed, thereby forming a image corresponding to the image data on the label surface.

摘要: The present invention is an inexpensive and accurate means of improving resolution when imaging a small digital display onto a larger photosensitive medium. The device includes a printer having a housing that encloses, in a common cavity thereof, an arrangement comprising a digital area array display, a plurality of lenses, and an image plane. The digital area array display, the plurality of lenses, and the image plane are spaced along an optical axis extending from the digital area array display through the plurality of lenses, and toward the image plane such that a digital image provided by the display can be brought into focus onto the imaging plane by the plurality of lenses. One of the plurality of lenses is a transposable lens, the transposable lens capable of being transposed out of the optical axis during the operation of the printer, to increase the perceived resolution of the digital image focused onto the imaging plane. The invention provides in another aspect, a jogging mechanism for jogging a lens, the device comprising a first translating means for jogging an transposable lens in a first direction, a second translating means for jogging the transposable lens in a second direction, and a biasing means. In an alternate aspect, the present invention also provides a method of imaging a digital display onto an image plane, whereby the method of imaging increases the perceived resolution of the digital image focused onto said imaging plane.
