The present invention relates to the manufacture of textile multifilament yarns and, in particular, to a device for twisting multifilament yarns in conventional drawtwister machines. The device includes a pair of twisting rollers mounted to rotate freely on shafts, the axis of which are arranged with a substantial angle between them and in spaced apart and parallel planes. One twisting roll is a straight cylinder mounted on a fixed shaft whose axis is perpendicular to a supporting plate. The other is a frustrum with concave walls and a determined radius of curvature and is mounted on a shaft whose axis is parallel to the surface of the supporting plate.The supporting plate of the twisting device is installed on a surface of the drawtwister machine so that the shaft of the concave roll forms an angle of about 40.degree.-50.degree. relative to an imaginary line connecting the yarn fastening roller and the surface of the godet. Twist in the yarn is set by heating the filament by of a suitable heating element before the yarn passes around the twisting rollers.

A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a spun yarn composed of an inner substantially untwisted core having fibers spirally wrapped about the surface thereof. In a specifically illustrated embodiment, a yarn of staple fibers is advanced along a path of travel, while being laterally deflected by contact with each of three separate rotating discs, and so as to produce a rotating balloon which serves to open the yarn and loosen and separate fibers on the surface of the yarn. Subsequently, the advancing yarn is subjected to a false twisting operation, which serves to wrap the loosened fibers about the advancing yarn.

A false-twist nozzle with an improved structure is provided herein. The false-twist nozzle according to the invention comprises a housing having a large-diameter yarn passage portion and an insert member having a small-diameter yarn passage portion and a fluid conduit hole. When the insert member is within the housing, a complete yarn passage hole is formed through the nozzle. Because the insert member is separable from the housing, drilling of the very small diameter fluid conduit hole can be made easily and accurately prior to insertion within the housing. Furthermore, the fluid conduit opening is disposed both annularly and angularly in the downstream direction with respect to the yarn passage hole, thereby increasing the twisting action induced by the flow of jetted fluid while preventing damage to the yarn.

The invention is concerned with a textile spinning machine particularly a ring spinning machine, and is directed to the provision of a tension reliever between the delivery rollers and the yarn balloon, which has the effect of producing a tension differential between the yarn forming the balloon, and the yarn travelling from the delivery rollers to the tension reliever. In order to facilitate piecing-up of the yarn after a breakage, the tension reliever has a drive wharf and a capstan device which includes a yarn engaging capstan element, the capstan device permitting threading in a radial direction, and having a snap-in connection with the wharf, so that the capstan device can be completely detached from the drive wharf for a piecing-up operation. The tension reliever itself has a hollow body rotatable about an axis substantially coincident with the path of the yarn and a capstan element in the form of a rod having a yarn engaging section extending close to the axis of rotation and a hook portion at the distal end to prevent the yarn sliding off the yarn engaging section.

Apparatus including two endless aprons, one operating inside the other, the top strands thereof forming a contact zone therebetween. The aprons are angled with respect to each other preferably between 130 and 150 degrees. The yarn applied through the zone is twisted upstream of the zone with respect to a variably adjustable, insertion length stop. The yarn can be heat treated, if desired, upstream or downstream of the contact zone. Alternatively, two or more yarn strands also can be false-twisted in parallel paths through the zone and joined thereafter. By changing the length of insertion of one strand with respect to the other, alternated twist is provided to the combined yarn.

This is accomplished by wrapping the yarn around an elongated guide rod as it is fed to the take-up device under tension or by controlling the tensioned free length of the yarn as it is guided onto the take-up device to preclude rotation of the nodes or points of twist reversal in the yarn.
