A frictional false twister is disclosed. The twister has a plurality of rotating friction plates located between the nip of the front rollers and the yarn guide. The friction plates are staggeringly arranged for rubbing a twisted yarn. The spinning direction of the twisted yarn is opposite to the rotating direction of the friction plates. Through the action of the frictional false twister, the twist of the yarn between the false twisting device to the front nip can be increased, shortening the twisting triangle height, and increasing the spinning strength. As the yarn and the outer surface of the friction plate make relative sliding and rubbing, the friction damping force correspondingly reduces the spinning tension in the twisting triangle.

A linear course of thread is required for a high speed friction false-twisting unit. For this purpose, the region of travel of the thread through the center of a three spindle disk set triangle should be freely accessible. One of the disk sets is adapted to be swung out on a lever from the other two disk sets. A toothed belt drive is used both in the case of a tangential belt drive and in units driven by an electric motor. A further advantage is that this arrangement can be used in units which have the possibility of a change of the center-to-center distance. The belts from driving rollers which drive the disk set spindles are held outside the center of the disk triangle through which the thread passes.

The apparatus is provided with a control groove formed on the surfaces of the ring roller and/or the inscribed roller holding the fiber bundle between them and which controls the thickness in the transverse direction of the fiber bundle to be crimped. As the fiber bundle in the nip zone is controlled in the transverse direction, the constriction of the fiber bundle is produced evenly in full width and the crimping process produces even waves and the apparatus is operated stably.

A false twisting roll for imparting false twist to an advancing yarn of manmade fibers is disclosed. The roll has a generally conical and somewhat concave surface configuration, and the angle of inclination of the roll axis is adjustable with respect to the yarn path leading into contact with the roll. To insure optimal twisting conditions at all adjustable inclinations of the roll, the position of the pivotal axis of the roll, and the shape of the surface of the roll are adapted to each other so that the yarn path leading into contact with the roll is predetermined and remains constant. This in turn assures that the upstream twisting conditions of the yarn are unchanged.

A twist generator for a running fiber aggregate possesses two friction discs rotating in opposite directions and having end faces turned towards one another for the twisting of the fiber aggregate running between the friction discs. One friction disc is made flexible and is pressed by pressure rollers towards the end face of the other friction disc and consequently against the fiber aggregate. To allow defined conditions to be obtained as regards pressing force, there are two pressure rollers, of which one is arranged shortly before and the other shortly after the thread contact point of the friction discs in the direction of movement of the flexible friction disc. The two pressure rollers are mounted next to one another, but preferably offset in the direction of movement of the fiber aggregate, on a carrier which is pivotably fastened to a spring-loaded lever. The distribution of the pressing force to the two pressure rollers can be changed by adjusting the carrier relative to this lever.
