    Abstract: A yarn collecting bobbin comprising an elongated, tapered tube having a frusto-conical skirt affixed thereto is disclosed. The skirt encircles generally the base section of the bobbin, with a relatively short extension from the tube projecting beyond the lower end of the skirt. The skirt is firmly secured to the tube by any of several different techniques and is notched so as to entrain a yarn end adjacent thereto and commence winding of yarn on the bobbin.

    Abstract: Fluid operated logic device providing a positive going OR or a negative going AND signal is disclosed. Input signals are provided via fluid moving in first and second circuits or fluid flow paths which pass through a common chamber. The chamber incorporates a fluid impervious flexible diaphragm which isolates the first and second circuits or flow paths within the chamber. The diaphragm is movable in response to fluid movement through one of the first and second flow paths to block the other flow path through the chamber, thereby precluding fluid movement from the inlet to the outlet opening of the other flow path and also preventing feedback of one input signal into the other circuit. The device is passive, operating on signal power alone.

    Abstract: An automatic yarn twisting or spinning and rewinding system has at least one spinning frame with opposite banks of spinning stations. A pair of tenders, one for each of the banks, is provided for patrolling the stations and servicing any of the stations requiring attention. Upon stopping at a station requiring servicing, the tender doffs the bobbin (supply unit) at the station and donns an empty bobbin and starts the strand winding onto the empty bobbin. Thus there is a continuous supply of filled bobbins. The filled bobbins are conveyed to a readier of a winding machine at an end of the spinning frame or frames and, responsive to demand of the winding machine, the filled bobbins are deposited in the readier where they are suitably processed and then delivered to winding stations of the winding machine. The system is regulated so that the winding machine continuously uses the filled bobbins at substantially the same rate at which they are doffed from the spinning frame. After the yarn on the bobbins has been wound onto packages the bobbins may be ejected from the winding machine and are transferred back to a tender which thereupon donns the empty bobbins, as required, at the spinning stations.

    Abstract: Improved anodes comprising dendritic zinc suitable for use in electrochemical devices such as primary and secondary cells and methods for preparing the anodes are disclosed. These methods are: (1) coating a porous support with, or shaping an electrode from already-prepared zinc dendrites; (2) in situ reduction of a porous substrate coated with a zinc compound; and (3) electrodeposition of zinc dendrites from a solution of a zinc compound onto a porous support. The above methods include various washing steps which prevent side reactions between the zinc dendrites and other substances which may be present during the production and use of the anodes. Various molding and shaping steps may also be included, and in situ amalgamation, or amalgamation of the finished anodes is generally desirable. These anodes have unusually high surface area, porosity and efficiency.

    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for readying filled supply bobbins for receipt by a winding machine. As each bobbin is delivered to the apparatus it is given a preliminary servicing and inspection, whereupon the bobbin is either rejected or further processed by having a tailing or inner end of the body of yarn severed and an unwinding or outer end of the yarn picked-up and formed into a bunch which is deposited by means of a ram in a hollow core of the bobbin for retention therein until subsequent retrieval at the winding machine. Next the bobbin is again inspected and either rejected or directed to the winding machine. The rejected bobbins may be deposited in a bin for manual inspection.

    Abstract: A bobbin handling apparatus in which filled bobbins are stored in a storage-conveyor bin and discharged through a chute and into a hopper. The bin continues to feed bobbins until a predetermined weight of bobbins is in the hopper whereupon a control system stops operation of the bin and concurrently closes a closure associated with the chute to prevent any bobbins subsequently passing from the bin from entering the weighing hopper.     Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for imparting false twist to textile yarn wherein a friction twister is employed to impart a plurality of turns of twist to a strand of yarn for each revolution of the friction twister. The invention is particularly suited to situations wherein the yarn strand is moving rapidly. The disclosed frictional twister comprises two axially aligned hollow spindles containing frictional engagement means therein. The two spindles are driven by moving belts that contact the exterior circumferential surfaces of the spindles. Movable yarn guide means are provided to engage the yarn strand and assure adequate frictional engagement between the yarn strand and the frictional engagement means after the spindles are threaded up.
