Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive display and one or more sensors to detect signals from a stylus associated with the device: displays a user interface on the touch-sensitive display; while displaying the user interface on the touch-sensitive display, detects the stylus moving towards the touch-sensitive display, without the stylus making contact with the touch-sensitive display; determines whether the detected stylus movement towards the touch-sensitive display satisfies one or more stylus movement criteria; in accordance with a determination that the detected stylus movement satisfies the one or more stylus movement criteria, displays a menu overlaid on the user interface, the menu including a plurality of selectable menu options; detects selection of a first menu option in the plurality of selectable menu options; and, in response to detecting selection of the first menu option: performs an operation that corresponds to the first menu option, and ceases to display the menu.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface and a display, displays a user interface that includes a plurality of representations of content, including a respective representation of content corresponding to respective content associated with a respective application, wherein the respective representation of content is different from the respective content associated with the respective application. In response to detecting a gesture that includes a contact on the respective representation of the content on the touch-sensitive surface, the device displays the respective content in the application user interface of the respective application if the gesture meets criteria for displaying an application user interface for the respective application associated with the respective representation of content. Alternatively, in response to the gesture, the device displays a respective preview of the respective content without displaying the application user interface of the respective application if the gesture meets criteria for displaying a preview.

Abstract: An electronic device displays a settings user interface that includes one or more control objects. The settings user interface is configured to adjust operations of the device that use one or more sensors that detect intensity of contacts with a touch-sensitive surface, and/or one or more tactile output generators. The device detects an input for a first control object of the one or more control objects; and, in accordance with the detected input for the first control object, changes the second intensity threshold and the second tactile output. The device provides a first tactile output in response to detecting that an intensity of a contact on a touch-sensitive surface increases above a first intensity threshold, and provides a second tactile output in response to detecting that an intensity of a contact on the touch-sensitive surface increases above a second intensity threshold, distinct from the first intensity threshold.

Abstract: An electronic device detects a contact associated with a focus selector that controls movement of a respective user interface object; and while continuously detecting the contact, the device detects first movement of the contact. In response to detecting the first movement of the contact, the device moves the focus selector and the respective user interface object, and determines an intensity of the contact. The device detects second movement of the contact and in response to detecting the second movement of the contact: when the contact meets respective intensity criteria, the device moves the focus selector and the user interface object; and when the contact does not meet the respective intensity criteria, the device moves the focus selector without moving the user interface object.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a touch-sensitive surface and a display. The device displays, on the display, a first user interface. The device detects a gesture on the touch-sensitive surface. The gesture includes movement of a contact in a respective direction on the touch-sensitive surface. In response to detecting the gesture: in accordance with a determination that the movement of the contact is entirely on a first portion of the touch-sensitive surface, the device performs an operation in the first user interface that corresponds to the gesture; and in accordance with a determination that the movement of the contact is entirely on a second portion of the touch-sensitive surface, the device replaces display of the first user interface with display of a second user interface different from the first user interface.

The input-output mapping including a first input-output relationship between intensity and response over a first range of intensity values, a second input-output relationship between intensity and response over a second range of intensity values, and a transitional intensity value where the first range of intensity values meets or overlaps the second range of intensity values. At the transitional intensity value, the first input-output relationship has a first rate of change, the second input-output relationship has a second rate of change, and the first rate is substantially the same as the second rate.

Abstract: An electronic device displays a user interface in a first display state. The device detects a first portion of a gesture on a touch-sensitive surface, including detecting intensity of a respective contact of the gesture. In response to detecting the first portion of the gesture, the device displays an intermediate display state between the first display state and a second display state. In response to detecting the end of the gesture: if intensity of the respective contact had reached a predefined intensity threshold prior to the end of the gesture, the device displays the second display state; otherwise, the device redisplays the first display state. After displaying an animated transition between a first display state and a second state, the device, optionally, detects an increase of the contact intensity. In response, the device displays a continuation of the animation in accordance with the increasing intensity of the respective contact.
