摘要: In one aspect of the invention, a tool has a working portion with at least one impact tip brazed to a carbide extension. The carbide extension has a cavity formed in a base end and is adapted to interlock with a shank assembly of the cutting element assembly. The shank assembly has a locking mechanism adapted to interlock a first end of the shank assembly within the cavity. The locking mechanism has a radially extending catch formed in the first end of the shank assembly. The shank assembly has an outer surface at a second end of the shank assembly adapted to be press-fitted within a recess of a driving mechanism. The outer surface of the shank assembly has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 110 percent or more than a coefficient of thermal expansion of a material of the driving mechanism.

摘要: In one aspect of the present invention, a method of excavation with pointed cutting elements, comprising the steps of providing a excavating assembly with at least one pointed cutting element, the pointed cutting element comprising a rounded apex that intersects a central axis, the pointed cutting element further has a characteristic of having its highest impact resistance to resultant forces aligned with the central axis; engaging the at least one pointed cutting element against a formation such that the formation applies a resultant force against the pointed cutting element; determining an angle of the resultant force; and modifying at least one excavating parameter to align the resultant force with the pointed cutting element's central axis.

摘要: In one aspect of the invention, a high impact resistant tool includes a superhard material bonded to a cemented metal carbide substrate at a non-planar interface. The superhard material has a substantially pointed geometry with a sharp apex having a radius of curvature of 0.050 to 0.125 inches. The superhard material also has a thickness of 0.100 to 0.500 inches thickness from the apex to a central region of the cemented metal carbide substrate.

The disc cutter may be attached to a drill bit comprising a body, working face and plurality of blades.Another aspect of the present invention comprises a method of forming a disc cutter including providing a can of a generally cylindrical shape with a central axis, positioning a column of disposable material, carbide, and crystalline grains in such a manner so when put under high temperature and high pressure a compact in the shape of a disc cutter may be formed and a column from the center axis may be removed. Another method for forming a disc cutter comprises forming a plurality of compacts and bonding the compacts together in a generally toroidal shape.

摘要: A degradation assembly for use with a driving mechanism includes a working portion coupled to a shank assembly. The working portion has an impact tip brazed to a working end of a carbide extension. The carbide extension has a cavity formed in a base end that is adapted to engage with a shank and a locking mechanism of the shank assembly. The shank has an outer surface proximate a first end which is receivable within the cavity of the carbide extension. The locking mechanism has a radially extending catch configured to engage with the cavity and couple the shank assembly to the working portion. The shank has an outer surface proximate a second end which is adapted to be press-fitted within a recess of a driving mechanism.
