摘要: An ink-jet head 501 as a liquid transportation apparatus includes pressure chambers 514, and a piezoelectric layer 503 having individual electrodes 532 and a vibration plate 530. When W is a length in the radial direction of pressure chambers 514, and A is a length in the radial direction of portions of individual electrodes 532 to which a drive voltage is applied, the portions being formed at areas each overlapping with one side portion, in the radial direction, of the edge portion of one of the pressure chambers 514, the length A in the radial direction of individual electrodes 532 is determined based on a relationship between the value of A/(W/2) and an amount of deformation of the vibration plate 530 when the drive voltage is applied to the individual electrode 532, such that the amount of the deformation of the vibration plate 530 becomes great. Accordingly, a liquid transporting apparatus provided with the piezoelectric actuator which has excellent durability and more improved drive efficiency.

摘要: An ink jet printer as an liquid ejection apparatus includes two ink channels which are independent from each other and communicate an ink tank and a pressure chamber communicating with a nozzle, a pump pressurizing ink in one of the ink channels, and a mode switching section capable of switching between two modes of ink ejection mode and ink circulation mode. In the ink ejection mode, ink is provided from the ink tank to the pressure chamber to the pressure chamber through the two ink channels, so that the ink is ejected through the nozzle. In the ink circulation mode, the pump pressurizes ink in one of the ink channels, so that the ink is forcibly circulated between the ink tank and the pressure chamber. The liquid ejection apparatus is capable of reliably discharging air bubbles remaining in the ink by ejecting a minimum amount of liquid through the nozzle.

摘要: An actuator includes an apex section which can make a contact with a paper, a thin plate which has two inclined sections each extending from the apex section, a piezoelectric layer which is arranged on each of the inclined sections, and an individual electrode which is provided to each of the piezoelectric layers. The piezoelectric layer between the individual electrode and the inclined section is deformed by being applied with a voltage selectively to the two individual electrodes by a driving circuit. By deforming the piezoelectric layer, the apex section can be displaced and thus the paper can be transported. A movable apparatus which is supported on the floor by the apex section is also provided. A micro device in which an element is provided to the apex section is also provided.

摘要: A liquid transport device comprises a channel unit and a piezoelectric actuator. The channel unit has pressure chambers. The piezoelectric actuator changes the volume of the pressure chambers. The piezoelectric actuator consists mainly of a vibration plate, a piezoelectric layer and an anisotropic conductive layer, which is formed between the vibration plate and the piezoelectric layer. A portion of the anisotropic conductive layer is compressed to be conductive, and the other portion is insulative. The use of the anisotropic conductive layer makes the electric connection of the piezoelectric actuator simple in structure, increases the reliability of the connection and reduces the parasitic capacitance of the actuator.

摘要: A method of manufacturing an ink-jet head according to the present invention includes a step of providing a vibration plate in which grooves associated with respective pressure chambers are formed on a surface of the vibration plate, and a piezoelectric layer forming step of forming a piezoelectric layer by depositing particles of a piezoelectric material on the surface of the vibration plate on an opposite side of a channel unit. Since grooves corresponding to the grooves in the vibration plate are formed also in the piezoelectric layer, it is possible to reduce a cross talk between operating sections of the piezoelectric layer. Further, chip and crack is hardly developed in the piezoelectric layer.

摘要: An ink tank includes an ink chamber and a pressure-adjusting tube communicated therewith. Low liquid-repellent areas and high liquid-repellent films having liquid repellence higher than that of the low liquid-repellent areas are formed alternately in the extending direction of the tube. A difference in air pressure between both sides of a movable liquid, required for the liquid to enter the high liquid-repellent film when the liquid exists on the low liquid-repellent area disposed adjacently to the high liquid-repellent film on an atmospheric air side, is larger than that of a movable liquid required for the liquid to enter the high liquid-repellent film when the liquid exists on the low liquid-repellent area disposed adjacently to the high liquid-repellent film on an ink chamber side. It is possible to suppress the fluctuation of the internal pressure of the ink chamber of an ink-jet printer by using a simple structure.

摘要: A head unit has a head main body for discharging ink, a driver IC and an FPC, which is interposed between the driver IC and the head main body. The FPC has through holes each of which is embedded with a conductor. The conductor is bonded to an output terminal of the driver IC and the separate electrode formed on a piezoelectric sheet of the head main body. Thus, the driver IC is connected electrically to the separate electrodes of the head main body. With this arrangement, the heat generated by the driver IC is prevented from propagating to the head.
