Abstract: A display device includes a display unit in which a plurality of pixels are arranged. One pixel includes four sub-pixels, and the display unit includes: a pixel including one each of four sub-pixels of four different colors that are a first color, a second color, a third color, and a fourth color; and a pixel including four sub-pixels, where two of the four sub-pixels are identical and are one of sub-pixels of the first color, the second color, and the third color, and remaining two of the four sub-pixels are different two of the sub-pixels of the first color, the second color, and the third color but are not one of the identical sub-pixels.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes a display panel comprising a plurality of pixels, a light guide plate, a light source configured to emit light from a lateral side of the light guide plate, a dimming panel, and a controller. The dimming panel comprises a plurality of dimming areas arranged in an emission direction of the light from the light source. The dimming areas are capable of individually changing transmittance of the light according to intensities of light required to display an image using the display panel. When adjacent two of the dimming areas differ in light transmittance from each other, the controller increases output gradation values of target pixels, the target pixels being located in a predetermined area extending from a boundary between the two dimming areas in one of the two dimming areas that has lower light transmittance.

Abstract: A display device includes a display unit having a display surface on which pixels are arranged in row and column directions. Each pixel includes subpixels having different colors. Subpixels in the pixels include a first subpixel including an electrode having an opening with a longitudinal direction along a first direction and a second subpixel including an electrode having an opening with a longitudinal direction along a second direction. The first and second directions are different from the row and column directions. Subpixels arranged in a third direction are the first or second subpixels. The number of subpixels constituting one color pattern in a fourth direction is 2α. The number of subpixels in which the first and second subpixels arranged in the fourth direction constitute one cycle is 4α. The third direction is one of the row and column directions, and the fourth direction is the other direction.

When display is performed in a plurality of display regions in respective single colors adjacent to each other in the display panel, the controller inputs a signal for lighting a sub-pixel that does not contribute to one of the single colors in a halftone manner, in a pixel included in a boundary section of the adjacent display regions.
