Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel that includes a display portion including pixels and a non-display portion including an opening, an illumination device, and a color separation element provided between the display panel and the illumination device. The color separation element includes a first element overlapping the pixel and a second element overlapping the opening, the first element separates illumination light from the illumination device into light of a plurality of colors and irradiates the pixel with the light, and the second element separates illumination light from the illumination device into light of a plurality of colors and irradiates the opening with the light.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first arrangement layer and a second arrangement layer. The first layer includes a first pixel, a second pixel, and a third pixel are arranged periodically in one direction. The second layer is opposed to the first layer, and the second layer includes a first element, a second element, and a third element which are arranged periodically to correspond to the first pixel, the second pixel, and the third pixel, respectively, and separate emission light to light of wavelength corresponding to a first color, light of wavelength corresponding to a second color, and light of wavelength corresponding to a third color to be emitted on the first pixel, the second pixel, and the third pixel, respectively.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes an image display panel including: sub-pixel rows, in each of which sub-pixels for displaying different colors are periodically arrayed in a first direction, are regularly arranged in a second direction different from the first direction; signal lines in parallel to sub-pixel columns in which the sub-pixels are successively arranged in the second direction; and scan lines that sequentially select each sub-pixel row. Each of m (integer ≥2) selector signals selects n (integer ≥1) pairs of the signal lines each supplied with two signals each having a mutually reverse polarity, within a period during which each sub-pixel row is selected by a corresponding scan line, and a sum of potential changes of the n pairs of the signal lines selected by each selector signal is substantially zero when each sub-pixel row is sequentially selected by the corresponding scan line.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel, a light source, a light guide and a prism sheet. The display panel includes a display area in which unit pixels each containing first sub-pixels and second sub-pixels are arranged along a first direction and a second direction. In the display area, the first sub-pixels have a width different from that of the second sub-pixel in at least one of the first direction and the second direction, or each unit pixel contains different numbers of first sub-pixels and second sub-pixels. The prism sheet is interposed between the light guide and the display panel and includes prisms extending along a third direction inclined with respect to the second direction by an acute angle of inclination.

Abstract: A driving method for an image display apparatus which includes an image display panel having a plurality of pixels arrayed in a two-dimensional matrix and each configured from a first subpixel for displaying a first primary color, a second subpixel for displaying a second primary color, a third subpixel for displaying a third primary color and a fourth subpixel for displaying a fourth color, and a signal processing section. The signal processing section is capable of calculating a first subpixel output signal, a second subpixel output signal, a third subpixel output signal, and a fourth subpixel output signal. The driving method includes a step of calculating a maximum value (Vmax(S)) of brightness, a saturation (S) and brightness (V(S)), and determining the expansion coefficient (α0).
