A hydraulic brake system provided with a wheel slip control means (2) for use with automotive vehicles, comprising a master cylinder (2) pressurizable by a hydraulic force booster (1), wherein valve devices (32,33 and 34, 35, respectively) are provided between the master cylinder (2) and the wheel brakes (25, 26 and 30, 31, respectively) connected to the master cylinder. Pressure fluid is dischargeable through the valve devices from the wheel brakes 25, 26 and 30, 31, respectively) with pressure fluid discharged from the wheel brakes being replenishable by pressure fluid from the pressure chamber (10) of the hydraulic force booster (1) or an auxiliary pressure source (49). During the slip control, a stroke movement of the pedal brake (8) is effected in order to enable the hydraulic brake system to be employed both as a brake-slip-controlled system (ABS-system) and as a traction slip-controlled system (TSC-system). Pressure conduits (53, 54) are connected to the brake lines (51, 52) leading from the working chambers (16, 20) of the master cylinder (2) to the wheel brakes (25, 26, 30, 31) which, through the valve devices (37, 39 and 38, 40, respectively) can be connected to the pressure chamber (10) of the hydraulic booster and/or to the auxiliary pressure source (49). Locking valves (41, 42) are additionally provided in the brake conduits (51, 52) through which the connections of the brake conduits (51, 52) to the working chambers (16, 20) of the master cylinder (2) can be interpreted.

An apparatus for monitoring the pressure of an auxiliary energy source (10, 11, 12) of a slip-controlled brake system for motor vehicles comprises at least two switches responding when falling below a pressure limit value(p.sub.1), releasing warning signals and influencing the function of the brake slip control. Through logical operation of the switch functions, failure of a switch (ws1, ws2) will be detected and an error signal derivable therefrom resulting in the partial shut-down or cut-off of the control. The monitoring circuit responds to two different pressure limit values (p.sub.o, p.sub.u). The brake system is partially shut down or cut off by measuring the interval (.DELTA.T) between the response to the upper and lower pressure limit threshold (p.sub.o and p.sub.u, respectively), locking and then switching on the master valves (21, 22), detecting the reaction on turning on again the master valves etc., and by logical operation of the signals.

A brake system with slip control comprises a conventional braking pressure generator (1), for example a master cylinder (2) with a vacuum-type booster (3) connected before it. An auxiliary pressure control valve (23) is provided whose control inlet port (21) is connected with a pressure chamber (9) of the master cylinder. As the slip control action starts, a hydraulic pump (26) is put into operation which causes an auxiliary pressure proportional to the pedal force to be built up by means of the control valve (23). The auxiliary pressure causes hydraulically actuatable valve arrangements (27, 28, 45, 46) to be switched over and thus the auxiliary pressure supply system (23, 26) instead of the master cylinder (2) to be connected with the wheel brakes (31 to 34). Simultaneously, the brake circuits (I, II) of the master cylinder are cut off and thus a further displacement of the master cylinder pistons (6, 7) is prevented.

A hydraulic brake system for automotive vehicles with at least one load sensor (41) sensing the load condition of the vehicle and with at least one sensor (14, 15, 21, 22) associated wtih each vehicle axle for the detection of a braking parameter decisive for the braking operation. The measured values sensed are supplied to an electric evaluation circuit (18) which during a braking operation permanently computes suitable braking pressure values for the wheel brakes (3, 4) of the rear axle and delivers corresponding control signals to a braking pressure modulator (31, 53, 54). A braking force sensor (14, 15, 21, 22) is associated with at least one vehicle wheel (12, 13, 19, 20) of each vehicle axle. By measuring the braking force actually transmitted to the road surface via the electronic evaluation circuit (18), braking pressure is adjusted in the wheel brakes (3, 4) of the rear axle which allows for the existing marginal conditions such as allowance made for friction value variations of the brake pads of the wheel brakes (1, 2, 3, 4).

The pressure piston of the known device is operated mechanically by the brake pedal upon failure of the pressure fluid supply. However, the brake pedal travel is increased in so doing. According to the present invention the control chamber has a second piston forming a boundary thereof opposite the pressure piston which keeps a pressure fluid channel open between the control chamber and the valve arrangement in the normal operating condition and closes the pressure fluid channel during failure of the pressure fluid supply so that the pressure piston is operated by the second piston without any appreciable increase in brake pedal travel.
