Abstract: A method of operating a terminal in a wireless communication system includes receiving, from a base station, system information including information on a first discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle; transmitting, to an access and mobility management function (AMF), a request message including information on a second DRX cycle based on the first DRX cycle; receiving, from the AMF, a response message about the request message, wherein the response message includes information determined based on whether the AMF assigns the second DRX cycle; and determining a DRX cycle of the terminal based on the response message.

The cell selection method of a terminal includes: receiving, from a base station, first maximum power information, PEMAX1 and second maximum power information, PEMAX2, related to maximum transmission power levels of the terminal on the uplink; calculating a compensation parameter, Pcompensation, related to uplink transmission power of the terminal, using the first maximum power information and the second maximum power information; calculating a cell selection reception level value, Srxlev, using the compensation parameter; and selecting a cell based on the calculated cell selection reception level value.

A secondary component carrier management method of a base station according to the present disclosure includes configuring a secondary component carrier of a second band to a terminal connected to the base station in a first band, determining whether a packet is present over a bearer allowing transmission on the secondary component carrier, and deactivating/releasing the secondary component carrier when no packet is present over the carrier.
