When a mobile station (MS) seeks access to a public land mobile network (PLMN) via an unlicensed or generic access networks (GAN) it first registers with a default GAN. If the default GAN is unable to serve the MS at its current location, it redirects the MS to other GANs serving the same of different PLMNs. However, when using the existing registration and redirection process, an MS has no means of knowing what services are provided by a specific combination of GAN and PLMN. In accordance with the present invention this is achieved by indicating for each PLMN and serving GANC an operation mode supported by the GANC. This operation mode being indicative of the interface used for communication between the GANC and PLMN it serves.

The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for configuring the HeNB (Home eNode B) to retrieve location information indicative of its location and sending this location information via a core network node to a UE (User Equipment) authorized to access the HeNB. The UE can then based on this received location information and on a determination of the location of the UE determine whether the UE is being positioned in the coverage of the HeNB. This implies that the authorized UEs of the HeNB know when they should try to find and access the HeNB and the UEs may then avoid accessing the HeNB when it is out of the HeNB coverage which will save UE battery and reduce interference.

The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for authentication and authorization in an access network. In an initial phase of the method according to the invention the user equipment and the security gateway exchange information on available certificate(s). If the user equipment and the security gateway lack matching certificates, the attempted authentication of the security gateway can not take place according to existing protocols and arrangements. According to the invention, if a certificate mismatch is identified, a certificate server is engaged. The certificate server, which is a separate entity from the security gateway, assists in at least part of the authentication procedure. Once the authentication is confirmed a secure tunnel can be established between the user equipment and the security gateway and payload traffic can be transferred.

In a mobile communications network including an unlicensed radio access portion adapted to communicate with mobile stations over an unlicensed-radio interface an arrangement and method is proposed to permit calls to be handled differently depending on whether the caller and subscriber wishes to connect via the unlicensed radio access network or not. This is achieved by providing a home location register adapted to identify stored subscriber identity information identifying a mobile station from at least two separate dialled numbers and to output mobile station location information associated with the subscriber identity information in response to the dialled number. At least one of these numbers is reserved for connections to a mobile station via the unlicensed radio access network portion only. The mobile communications core network is furthermore arranged to terminate a call using the second dialled number when a mobile station is not connected to the unlicensed radio access network.
