Abstract: According to certain aspects of the present disclosure, a system includes a heat-generating component and a thermal wake suppressor positioned downstream from the heat-generating component. The heat-generating component produces a thermal wake in a downstream direction. The thermal wake suppressor includes a spacing grid and a plurality of twist plates extending from the spacing grid at an angle. The spacing grid is defined by a plurality of longitudinal ribs and a plurality of transverse ribs that form a plurality of intersections. The plurality of twist plates is periodically arranged on the plurality of longitudinal ribs and the plurality of transverse ribs, such that a subset of the plurality of twist plates is arranged to break apart the thermal wake into sub-vortexes in the downstream direction.

Abstract: Cooling devices, such as fans, installed in a computing device can be automatically identified by reading an encoded signal from the cooling device's tachometer signal line. A cooling device can temporarily output an encoded signal in response to a trigger event, such as a power on event (e.g., powering-on of the cooling device). A controller, such as a baseboard management controller (BMC), can receive the encoded signal and decode the signal to determine identification information about the cooling device, such as vendor information and/or model information. The identification information about the cooling device can be stored, logged, output, and/or used to customize the operation of the cooling device.

Abstract: A coolant distribution unit providing reliant circulation of coolant in a liquid cooling system for a heat-generating component such as a computer server is disclosed. The coolant distribution unit includes a manifold unit having a supply connector to supply coolant to the heat-generating component and a collection connector to collect coolant from a heat exchanger. A first pump has an inlet coupled to the manifold unit and an outlet coupled to the manifold unit. The first pump circulates coolant from the inlet to the outlet. A second pump has an inlet coupled to the manifold unit and an outlet coupled to the manifold. The second pump circulates coolant from the inlet to the outlet. The second pump may be disconnected from the manifold unit, while the first pump continues to circulate coolant through the manifold unit.

Abstract: A computing system is provided. The computing system includes a central processing unit (CPU), a baseboard management controller (BMC), and a boot non-volatile memory. The BMC selects a boot partition in the computing system. The boot non-volatile memory stores at least two boot partitions as a primary boot area including a basic input/output system (BIOS) image and a secondary boot area including a BMC image. The BMC switches between the secondary boot area to boot the BMC and the primary boot area to boot the BIOS. Only one of the primary boot area or the secondary boot area is accessible when the BIOS is booting or when the BMC is booting.

Abstract: A method and system to ensure correct firmware image execution in a computer system. The computer system has a processor executing a basic input/output system (BIOS) and a baseboard management controller (BMC). A first flash memory device is coupled to the processor storing a BIOS firmware image and a project name. A second flash memory device is coupled to the BMC storing a BMC firmware image and the project name. A programmable logic device is coupled to the first and second flash memory devices. The programmable logic device including a non-volatile memory storing a project name. The programmable logic device is configured to execute a Platform Firmware Resilience routine to compare the project name of the BIOS firmware image and the project name of the BMC firmware image with the stored project name before starting the BMC or executing the BIOS firmware image by the processor.

Abstract: A system and method for identifying, analyzing, and repairing deviations in a power-on self-test routine (POST) of a computer system is disclosed. The computer system includes a basic input output system (BIOS) including a POST routine executed between power-on and hand off to an operating system. A memory stores a golden image POST code sequence. The controller and BIOS receive a sequence of POST codes from the execution of the POST routine. The sequence of POST codes is compared to the golden image POST code sequence. A deviation in the POST routine is identified based on at least one POST code of the sequence of the POST codes not matching the golden image POST code sequence. The identified deviation may be analyzed for further information in a message. The message may be used to recover from the deviation.
