An external medical drainage system is provided which has a slide interface between a mounting assembly to a pole, and a disposable drip assembly and a stopcock which snap-fits to the mounting assembly. The mounting assembly includes a clamp which is fastenable to the pole, and a support rail affixed to the clamp and which has a longitudinal slot that defines an open-face elongated channel. The drip assembly includes a key adjustably positionable within the channel, a graduated cylinder supported by the key, a drainage bag fluidly connected to the graduated cylinder, tubing extending from the graduated cylinder opposite the drainage bag, and a stopcock associated with the tubing and fixed to a clip. The stopcock clip snap-fits into clip-accepting notches of the clamp. A portion of the key disposed within the channel has a cross-sectioned configuration substantially matching the cross section of the channel. The key extends through the slot, but the channel is configured such that the support rail provides means for restricting the key to longitudinal movement within the channel. A lock fixes the key at a desired location within the channel.

A clamping system of universally interchangeable clamping components and accessories for use with standard healthcare equipment or patient healthcare procedures. The clamping system includes a support rod, a slip-coupling and a mounting bracket from which depends a short perpendicular post, which bracket may be permanently affixed to any piece of furniture. The slip-coupling is a tubular body defining a receiving bore for close passage of the perpendicular post at a first end, and a through bore passing at a right angle to the receiving bore at the opposite end. A set screw is removably threaded through the tubular body and attached to an oversized knob head for easy manual rotation to tighten and release the set screw. The support rod passes through the through bore and from which other slip-couplings or a secondary slip-coupling are mounted. The rod is vertically oriented relative to the appliance to provide support for horizontally mounted secondary slip-couplings from which accessories depend, such as a removable tray, an arm rest, an elbow rest, a handle bar and veterinary limb clamp. A slotted bar serves as a horizontal appendage to which a secondary slip-coupling is attached to hold an I.V. pole.

A mobile support unit such as an IV stand or the like coupled to a mobile hospital bed, gurney or wheelchair by a latch mechanism which provides hands free operation thereby avoiding the need for a nurse or care provider to manually manipulate the latch to secure the units together for tandem transport. Further, the latch mechanism according to this invention includes a clutch which prevents relative movement of the IV stand or support unit with respect to the hospital bed during transport up to a specific adjustable torque level thereby avoiding the problem of the IV stand or support unit swinging freely relative to the bed during movement. Further, the clutch permits movement of the IV stand or support unit through an arc relative to the bed when a specified force is applied as required by the nurse or care provider to reposition the IV stand or support unit relative to the bed and provide increased access to the patient or the like. The IV stand includes a relatively heavy base which provides a low center of gravity for the unit and offers a very stabile mobile IV stand which resists tilting or tipping during transport.

A pouch for organizing and suspending cables off of a hospital floor. The pouch comprises three distinct, integrally connected sections that cooperate in an envelope-like formation to enclose a plurality of cables. Two pockets integrally connect to the front side. Upon relocating a patient, the cables are unplugged and stored within the pouch, with the plugs contained within the pockets to prevent damage to the cables and plugs, and to avoid dragging the plugs along the floor. A pair of ties engages the back side of the pouch, each employing mating strips having complimentary hook and loop fasteners, to secure the pouch onto patient carriers at a significant height above a hospital floor. An assembly of interlocking bands and straps, each having complimentary hook and loop fasteners, cooperate to secure a plurality of cables in place within the pouch. The pouch can be opened while secured onto a patient carrier to access cables therein, and the ties can be quickly disengaged to transfer and relocate the pouch when necessary to do so.

An apparatus for self-administering fluids in patients, children, and persons of limited capabilities, includes a base, a first generally cylindrical, elongate support that extends upwardly from the base, a second generally cylindrical, elongate support that extends generally upwardly from the first support. The second support is pivotable relative to the first support and assumes first and second positions. The second support in the first position and the first support extend generally in a common direction. The second support in the second position extends generally perpendicular to the first support. The second support is rotatable a complete revolution about the first support.

A handle attachment for use with a chest drainage unit (CDU) having a pair of hangers extending above the CDU to support the CDU on a bedrail or the like. The handle attachment being used to capture both CDU hangers to allow the CDU to be transported within a medical facility by the necessary medical personnel in an easy, one-handed manner.

A feeding tube support includes a base plate having a pedestal, with the pedestal having a support leg pivotally mounted to the pedestal, the pedestal and support leg further including a further support leg pivotally mounted to an uppermost end of the support leg, with the further support leg including an opening directed therethrough for the mounting of a feed tube, and the feed tube in fluid communication with a gastronomy tube. The structure is arranged for interfolding for compact storage and transport during periods of non-use.

A mobile support stand for hospital equipment has a plurality of poles projecting upwardly from a wheeled base with IV hangers at the upper ends of the poles. The base has a span sufficient to provide the needed stability against tipping, with legs projecting outwardly from the base with wheels at their free ends for supporting and transporting the stand. At least one of the legs is retractable between a fully extended, operative position and a retracted, non-extended position. A securing mechanism allows the stand to be secured to existing mounting holes on a hospital bed with the retractable leg facing outward, and once the stand is secured to the bed the retractable leg is retracted out of the way so that the floor space taken up by the bed and attached stand is minimized.

A support for an ambulatory patient has a hub member with a mounting device for mounting the hub member on a vertical IV pole of a wheeled IV stand. An arcuate hand grip member is secured to the hub member and radially spaced from the mounting device for gripping by an ambulatory patient receiving medication from an IV bottle on the stand. A downwardly facing, U-shaped channel is provided on the hub member for allowing the support to be hooked onto the rim of the head or foot board of a bed or gurney.

A system is described for the collection and re-infusion of fluids from a patient. The system includes a non-disposable rigid cannister and a disposable flexible liner that is placed in the cannister. Fluids are collected from a patient in the cannister liner. The liner is then removed from the cannister and the contents are re-infused back into a patient. The system is unique in that it provides a stand along vacuum means for continuously providing a relatively high vacuum to the cannister and a relatively low vacuum inside the liner to cause the liner to expand against the walls of the cannister. The stand alone vacuum means also provides a consistent relatively low vacuum to a patient's cavity for collecting fluids from the patient without damaging the patient's internal organs.
