The steel cables, which have an inner cable core and helically encircling strands are arranged in the end regions of the portions such that they butt against one another, on the one hand, and overlap one another, on the other hand. The ends of groups of the steel cables are spaced apart from one another in the longitudinal direction of the conveyor belt. At least in the case of the majority of the steel cables, the strands, which enclose the cable core of the individual steel cables, terminate at different spacing distances from the ends of the cable core, as a result of which the cross sections of the steel cables decrease in the direction of the ends thereof.

The reinforcing band includes a plurality of wefts made of a rigid cord. The wefts are spaced from one another and extend transversely to a length of the belt so as to be substantially straight. The reinforcing band further has a plurality of warps each respectively woven with the plurality of wefts so as to form a mechanical woven structure. Each of the warps is tied together with each of the wefts by at least one respective knot in the warps at each of the wefts.

It comprises a matrix of thermoplastic resinous material, e.g., PVC, reinforced with an armouring comprising a layer of primary tension elements extending substantially rectilinearly in the longitudinal direction of the belt and consisting of continuous filaments, and covering layers consisting of yarns or threads disposed on both sides of the primary tension elements so as to impart coherence in the transverse direction of the belt, the top and bottom covering layers being connected by tying yarns or threads. The primary tension elements are composed of cables or cords of aramid. Adjacent primary tension elements are separated by gaps having a width of 0.5 to 3 times, more particularly 2 times the outer diameter of the primary tension elements. The gaps are filled up with one or more elements such as, e.g., cotton cables or cords.

The disclosure is of conveyor belting and a method for its manufacture. The belting comprises a plurality of substantially parallel textile yarns of a specific character, integrated with a layer of consolidated staple fibers and encapsulated in a matrix of a specific class of elastomeric resin. The belting of the invention is useful to manufacture conveyor belts which exhibit advantageous properties of wear resistance, stability in running and structural integrity.
