摘要:
A substituted cellulose ester having a cellulose backbone with an organic ester substituent and an inorganic ester substituent derived from the inorganic ester oxoacid catalyst may be utilized in adhesive compositions and articles produced therewith. Producing a substituted cellulose ester may, in some embodiments, involve providing a cellulose ester mixture that comprises a cellulose ester and a solvent; and hydrolyzing a mixture that comprises the cellulose ester mixture, water, and an inorganic ester oxoacid catalyst so as to yield a substituted cellulose ester having a cellulose backbone with an organic ester substituent and an inorganic ester substituent derived from the inorganic ester oxoacid catalyst.

A process of forming a nitrocellulose film on a carrier includes the steps of (i) atomizing a nitrocellulose solution to form a plurality of fine nitrocellulose particles and (ii) evenly spraying the nitrocellulose particles on the carrier to form the nitrocellulose film. The film has a predetermined thickness. The nitrocellulose solution is atomized by an ultrasonic spraying nozzle to control a size of each of the nitrocellulose particles to be sprayed on the carrier. The nebulizer can be air-assisted by inert air to control characteristics of the nitrocellulose spray pattern.
摘要:
Fibrous water-wet nitrocellulose containing 4.5 to 5.5% moisture sprayed with a solvent/cosolvent mixture converts to spheroid, densified nitrocellulose via bilateral agitation. A free-flowing dust-free product having a lower burn rate is produced which dissolves more rapidly for lacquer production. A preferred apparatus is an orbital shaker and a preferred solvent/cosolvent is isopropyl acetate/isopropyl alcohol.

A process for purification of nitrocellulose containing residual acid from nitration is provided. In this process the nitrocellulose is cut in the presence of water to form an aqueous slurry of cut nitrocellulose fibers. The pH of the slurry is adjusted to a value of at least about 8 and the slurry is heated under pressure. The pH of the slurry is maintained above 8 during heating by addition of basic solution to the slurry. When the residual acid in the slurry is substantially completely neutralized, the fibers are separated from the slurry. The purified nitrocellulose is of reduced viscosity and satisfactory stability.
